Latin Heat Media Institute (LHMI) is a non-profit organization which utilizes multiple platforms and strategic alliances to inform, educate, connect, and empower Latinos in entertainment by providing the resources and tools, as well as insight into relevant issues in the entertainment industry that inform and advance Latinos in media. Serving as a springboard and catalyst for Latino content creators with programs that will advance the development and visibility of Latino made and Latino themed films, TV and web projects.
RECENT PROGRAMMING
The LatinoMediaVisions is an initiative of LatinHeat Media Institute (LHMI). A multi-event initiative which showcases Latino content in monthly screenings in association with the American Cinematheque in Hollywood, CA. LMV also provides a recurring opportunity for the community to network and entrepreneurial seminars for the independent content producer.
2014
The LHMI Indie Film Screening Series has been established to give Latino Indie filmmakers an opportunity to have their films seen by community. Although most of these films are screened at film festival, their audience is limited to the cities and venues these festivals are in. The LHMI Indie Film Screening Series looks to bridge that gap and get these films seen by more community audiences. The films selected for the LHLMI Indie Film Screening Series are films with cultural relevance and/or that deal with social issues important to the underserved communities.
After a hugely successful Milwaukee screening of Lourdes Colon’s documentary Create Option C: My Journey With Cancer where it played to over 450 audience members, the LatinHeat Media Institute (LHMI) Indie Film Screening Series presented a Los Angeles screening of this award-winning documentary which is directed by Chris LaVoy. The exclusive one-time only screening took place on October 19th, 2014 at 11:00 AM to the Regal Cinemas L.A. Live Stadium 14 located on 1000 W. Olympic Blvd in downtown Los Angeles. The screening was free to the public with 300 tickets available on a first come, first serve basis.
