A Sacred Journey World Premiere at the 26th San Diego Latino Film Festival (SDLFF)

Sunday, March 17th at 4:20 PM and Sunday, March 24th at 3:30 PM

Hollywood, CA – Director Ernesto Quintero’s documentary, A Sacred Journey has been 20 years in the making and now will have its world premiere at the San Diego Latino Film Festival on Sunday, March 17th at 4:20 PM with an encore performance on Sunday, March 24th at 3:30 PM at the AMC Fashion Valley 18, located at 7037 Friars Rd., San Diego, CA 92108.

Quintero has crafted a formidable film that takes the audience on a voyage no one ever wishes to endure. The film puts a much-needed spotlight on the family which sacrifices everything to honor their loved one’s will to live.  After the family is dealt with an unimaginable blow, Quintero decides to pick-up his camera and start documenting every phase of his brother Juan’s devastating diagnosis of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

“It’s been an epic 20 years in the making and we finally get to share my brother Juan’s story with the world.  While ours is very personal, I know it will resonate with audiences everywhere because the fact is you’re either a caregiver or a care receiver or will be one of the two at some point in your life,” said Quintero.

Johns Hopkins research has found that most people who develop ALS are between the ages of 40 and 70, although the disease can occur at a younger age. In the case of Juan Quintero, who was diagnosed at 35.

A Sacred Journey also gives an intimate look at how caregivers often put the needs of their loved ones before themselves, and over time that selflessness makes an impact—both inspirational and challenging. The Quintero family is just like the 66 million Americans who face the challenges of the caregiving role and often feel alone in their struggles—their story gives us an intimate look at how they’ve been able to overcome tremendous odds and grow closer together.

The 2019 film festival event takes place from March 14-24, 2019 at AMC Fashion Valley 18, located at 7037 Friars Road, San Diego, CA 92108, and Digital Gym Cinema at 2921 El Cajon Blvd, San Diego, CA 92104. The 11-day festival celebrates the best of Latino Cinema, Arts & Culture.   Both screenings will follow up with a Q&A with the filmmaker, sponsored by Outside the Lens and The San Diego Blood Bank
