Riverdale and Dangerous Lies star Camila Mendes is currently filming Netflix’s new feature Strangers.
The film follows Drea and Eleanor, two teens who agree to go after one another’s bullies. Brazilian-American Mendes will play Drea while the role of Eleanor will go to Maya Hawke of Stranger Things.
Directing Strangers is Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Someone Great), who also co-writes the script along with Celeste Ballard (Wrecked) and co-produces along with Anthony Bregman (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) and Peter Cron (The Circle) for Likely Story under their overall deal with Netflix.
Rounding up the cast are Austin Abrams (Dash & Lily, Chemical Hearts), Alisha Boe (13 Reasons Why), Talia Ryder (West Side Story, Never Rarely Sometimes Always), Paris Berelc (Hubie Halloween, Alexa & Katie), Jonathan Daviss (Outer Banks), Maia Reficco (Next To Normal, Evita, Kally’s Mashup) and Ava Capri (Love, Victor), Rish Shah (Ms. Marvel) and Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones).
Mendes is a budding actress who currently stars in the CW’s teen drama Riverdale, playing eloquent high school sophomore Veronica Lodge. That breakout role won her a Teen Choice Award and nominations to various other prizes. The series is based on the characters of the Archie comic book series. Other credits include the romantic comedy feature The New Romantic, the Netflix film The Perfect Date and the independent sci-fi comedy Palm Springs, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival last year.
