Where Holistic Wisdom Meets Expert Insights

Latinas and wellness is a growing movement. Focused on holistic health (mental, physical, emotional, financial) with an emphasis on community, cultural connection, and empowerment. LatiNation Media is leaning into that momentum with the return of its health and wellness series, Esencia: Latina Wellness, hosted by journalist Katherine Castro. Kicking off 2026, the series underscores a powerful industry truth: Latinas are not only wellness-forward consumers with disposable income—they are informed decision-makers. And information – wellness information, it what Esencia: Latina Wellness delivers.

Katherine Castro

Esencia: Latina Wellness positions itself at the intersection of science, culture, and community. The series features evidence-informed conversations that resonate with bilingual Latinas seeking clarity, credibility, and relevance in an often trend-saturated wellness marketplace.

Esencia adopts an editorial-first approach that prioritizes context over hype. Each episode brings together medical professionals, holistic practitioners, and cultural voices to examine how identity, prevention, and science shape everyday wellness decisions—an approach that mirrors the values of a sophisticated Latina audience investing in long-term health.

The new season opens with “The Benefits of Peptide Therapy,” featuring Amber Cameneti, a Beverly Hills–based registered nurse specializing in peptide therapy and regenerative wellness, and host of the Ageless Blonde podcast. The episode explores the growing interest in peptide-based treatments within longevity and preventative medicine, offering viewers a grounded, accessible look at the science, real-world applications, and lifestyle considerations driving this emerging category.

By spotlighting both innovation and expertise, Esencia taps into a broader shift within the wellness and beauty industries—one where Latinas are demanding transparency, culturally fluent care, and representation from professionals who understand their lived experiences. Just as importantly, the series reinforces a growing ecosystem of Latina support: Latinas uplifting Latina experts, brands, and businesses.

The return of Esencia: Latina Wellness also aligns with LatiNation Media’s broader strategy to expand original programming across health, lifestyle, and culturally driven verticals. As an English-language media studio serving U.S. bilingual Latinos, LatiNation continues to demonstrate how authentic, culturally rooted storytelling can drive both impact and engagement.

With its unapologetically bicultural lens and multiplatform reach—spanning linear TV, streaming, FAST/AVOD/CTV, digital, and social—LatiNation Media connects brands and audiences to what it calls “the new mainstream.” Reaching 81% of U.S. Hispanic households across the top 47 DMAs, the company remains a key player for industries looking to engage a Latina audience that is informed, influential, and investing in wellness on its own terms.

In Esencia: Latina Wellness, that influence isn’t just acknowledged—it’s center.

Available on the LatiNation App and airing nationally on LATV (check local listings),

AFSC launches “Immigrants Make Our Communities Stronger” Campaign:

A powerful cultural movement is taking shape as Latino celebrities and influencers step into their power—not just as entertainers, but as advocates for justice and unity. The American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), a century-old Quaker organization dedicated to peace and equality, has launched its first-ever Hispanic celebrity PSA and publicity campaign, “Immigrants Make Our Communities Stronger.”

The bilingual, nonpartisan campaign represents a cultural awakening across the Latino creative community. For the first time, some of the most influential names in film, music, and media are aligning to uplift the dignity of immigrants, celebrate their contributions, and push back against divisive narratives with truth and pride.

A New Era of Latino Leadership

Latino immigrants have long fueled America’s progress—powering industries, enriching culture, and driving innovation. Yet in today’s political climate, fear and misinformation threaten to erase their humanity. AFSC’s campaign responds with compassion and storytelling, led by voices that reflect the very communities under fire.

“Immigrants make our communities stronger—neighbors, coworkers, students, and business owners,” said Brian Minter, AFSC’s Chief Marketing & Communications Officer. “But right now, immigrants are being detained and disappeared, tearing apart families and neighborhoods.”For Mexican-American actor Tonatiuh, the message is deeply personal: “My mother came to this country not knowing the language and without a roadmap. She faced an impossible task and persevered. Our story isn’t unique—it’s the story of countless Americans before us. Immigrants are not a problem to fix; we are the living embodiment of America’s values.”

Cultural Power Meets Social Impact

The campaign’s star lineup reads like a cross-section of Latino excellence: labor legend Dolores Huerta, actors Melissa Barrera, Tonatiuh, and Mishel Prada, Grammy-winning icons Los Tigres Del Norte, Ozomatli’s Wil-Dog Abers, Latin Grammy winner Chiquis, beloved singer Marisela, Univision journalist Daniela Ganoza, and radio personalities Don Cheto and Said Garcia Solis.

“Immigrants aren’t just part of America’s story; they are central to its success,” said Huerta, co-founder of the United Farm Workers. “The people being targeted are not just immigrants; they are the indigenous people of these continents. People are being harassed because of the color of their skin—it’s ethnic cleansing.”

Melissa Barrera, who has built a thriving Hollywood career while staying true to her Mexican roots, echoed the urgency: “As a proud Mexican actress working and living in the U.S., I’ve seen the strength and beauty that immigrants bring. We are not outsiders; we are an integral part of the fabric of the United States.”

Mishel Prada added, “Immigration is the heartbeat of American culture. Nothing great here was built alone. We’re all living proof of someone else’s courage to start again.”

The Numbers Tell the Story

Entrepreneurship: Latino immigrants represent 52% of all Latino-owned employer businesses, employing 3 million workers nationwide.

Economic Growth: Latino-owned businesses grew by 44% between 2018 and 2023, far outpacing their non-Latino peers.

Tax Impact: Immigrants contributed $579 billion in U.S. taxes in 2022, including $96.7 billion from undocumented immigrants.

Essential Work: Over 500,000 Hispanic immigrants power U.S. agriculture, and Latinos make up one in four workers across the food and service industries.

Culture, Courage, and Community

Running through the end of the year, AFSC’s “Immigrants Make Our Communities Stronger” campaign will appear across broadcast, digital, and social media platforms. The storytelling-driven effort highlights resilience, family, and cultural pride—core values that define the Latino experience in America.

By leveraging their platforms, Latino stars are not only raising awareness but reasserting leadership in shaping the national narrative on immigration. What emerges is a shared call to action: to recognize immigrants not as strangers, but as the heart of America’s story.

This Saturday, Highland Park Celebrates Them

Three Latina entrepreneurs have anchored Highland Park’s York Boulevard for up to 17 years, building businesses that became the backbone of one of LA’s most celebrated independent corridors. This Saturday, October 11, the 11th Annual Mercado Fall Festival (12-8 PM, York Blvd between Avenues 50-52) celebrates them with a free, three-block party of art, food, and community.

The festival’s main stage, Friends Over Followers, is hosted by LABellatini (Isabel Reyes), a DJ, curator, and community connector who has activated markets and showcases across Los Angeles for years. Her lineup spotlights Highland Park’s musicians, dancers, and performers – many of whom work at the very businesses lining York Boulevard. LABellatini’s work embodies what the Mercado stands for: joy, representation, and collaboration.

The festival’s three Latina entrepreneurs who have anchored York Boulevard for years: Noelle Reyes has run Mi Vida Boutique since 2008, providing a platform for Chicanx artists and creatives for 17 years. Corissa Hernandez, a first-generation Chicana entrepreneur and financial educator, co-founded Nativo and Legacy Full Circle Financial. At the Mercado, Nativo debuts a special cocktail menu with drinks inspired by neighboring businesses. Marcy Guevara-Prete launched The Plus Bus in 2015, LA’s premiere mobile plus-size boutique creating community and style for a market the fashion industry ignores.

These women represent a growing wave of Latina business leadership, creating spaces that are not only successful but intentional about who they serve and what they represent.

This year carries special meaning. As small businesses and street vendors across Los Angeles face economic pressure, the Mercado is both a celebration and an act of resilience – a moment to rebuild, reconnect, and reaffirm the creative economy that defines Highland Park.

Now in its second decade, the Mercado Fall Festival stands as both celebration and statement: that culture, creativity, and local business ownership remain the heartbeat of Northeast Los Angeles. With live music, lowriders, art activations, and over 100 neighborhood vendors, the Mercado continues to grow as one of LA’s most beloved community events – powered by collaboration, heritage, and pride.

In Memoriam

Tejano music legend and TV host Johnny Canales passed away on June 12, 2024, he was 67. Canales will be remembered for a giving soul who was there to illuminate and give a hand up to new Tejano talent on his show, the Corpus Christi-based TV show The Johnny Canales Show, which ran from 1983 to the mid 1990’s.

He would introduce young and well known music talents with his signature phrase “You Got It, Take it Away”. It was a show that captivated audiences near and far introducing talents like a teenage Selena who appeared on his show a couple of times before her career took off. Canales was known at that time as the “Mexican American Dick Clark”.

Author, Filmmaker, & Activist David Damian Figueroa, was a friend of Canales throughout the years. Figueroa, who was a publicist back in the day, would bring his clients to Canales show. In honor of Canales’ legacy Figueroa said:

“Johnny Canales was a true American hero who championed the uniquely American music genre of Tejano. His influence extended far beyond borders, as his show was broadcast in 23 countries, showcasing the vibrant sounds of Tejano music to a global audience.

Canales’s ability to seamlessly blend Spanglish, with his tagline delivered in English to an audience that predominantly spoke Spanish, further solidifies his legendary status. His story serves as a testament to the power of music to transcend language barriers and unite people from diverse backgrounds.

He was instrumental in inspiring other Corpus Christi hometown talents, like Selena, Freddy Fender, Pepe Serna, and Eva Longoria, who all went on to become icons in their own right. As for me, Johnny was my good friend, compadre, and colleague. He taught me a lot about the entertainment business and civil rights and how to merge both to help our community. Johnny Canales’ legacy as a pioneer in promoting.”

David Damian Figueroa

There is a documentary currently in post production entitled Take It Away: The Rise and Fall of Tejano Hollywood that will recount Canales’ significant contribution to Tejano music. The documentary will shed light on Canales’ significant contributions to the Tejano music scene and his enduring legacy.

Congressman Joaquin Castro Champions the Coalition’s Efforts

The Latino Representation in Publishing Coalition (LPRC), which launched today, consists of seven Latino-led organizations with a shared goal of increasing Latino representation across every sector of the Publishing Industry. The coalition is committed to the expansion of Latino representation in the field of publishing, from its published materials to executive leadership. With support from Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-TX-20), a champion in advancing Latino representation in the media, the LRPC is a fresh force in the industry that will work with publishing companies to strategize tangible solutions that amplify the work of Latino creatives and promote Latino organizational staff throughout the industry.

LRPC has scheduled and/or met with the CEOs of five out of the six top publishing companies to work with them to ramp up their efforts to bolster more Latino visibility across the industry while holding legislators who are allowing or leading attacks on books accountable.

Latinos makeup nearly 20% of the US population but only account for 8% of employees in publishing. The LRPC aims to bridge this gap by working with publishing houses, including the top six, to identify opportunities to uplift Latino talent across the industry, from authors and editorial staff to c-suite executive positions. The official launch of the LRPC comes after NHMC and its coalition partners penned a letter to the top six publishing houses demanding transparency of its DEIA efforts and investment in Latino talent across every sector of its business.

“The Government Accountability Office report I commissioned on Latino representation in American media found that Hispanics make up only eight percent of the publishing sector — in a country where we’re nearly 20 percent of the workforce,” said Congressman Castro. “Latinos should have a place in publishing — from entry-level positions all the way to the c-suite. When Latinos don’t have a seat at the table where decisions about narratives in our textbooks, novels, newspapers, and magazines are made, our stories are often ignored, told inaccurately, or riddled with harmful stereotypes, creating a black hole that allows bigotry to fester. The Latino Representation in Publishing Coalition is an important collaboration that will fight for Latino inclusion in the spaces we rightfully belong. With LRPC’s help, publishing can become a more diverse field that helps Americans understand who Latinos are and what we’ve contributed to this country.”

At a time when LGBTQ authors and authors of color are targets of banned book attempts by local governments, the launch of the LRPC is rooted in the belief that authentic representation in publishing is vital, especially when literary narratives are utilized for educational or entertainment purposes.

The LRPC is made up of seven Latino-led organizations, including Dignidad Literaria, the Latino Corporate Directors Association, Latinx in Publishing, The Latinx House, the Hispanic Heritage Foundation, the National Association of Latino Independent Producers, and the National Hispanic Media Coalition.

By Cris Franco

Welcome to a world of romantic splendor and opulent excess. A place where the underground can meet the elite in electrifying enchantment. Pour the champagne and prepare for the spectacular – you’ve arrived at Moulin Rouge! The Musical. Baz Luhrmann’s iconic 2001 Academy Award-winning film comes to life onstage, remixed in a new musical mash-up extravaganza at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa from November 9 to 27, 2022.

Moulin Rouge spectacular (Photo by Matthew Murphy)

Set in hyper-romantic Paris at the turn-of-the-century, Moulin Rouge! The Musical is a theatrical celebration of truth, beauty, freedom, love – and the power of art. The extremely gifted ensemble is headed by young songwriter Christian (dashing Conor Ryan) and his muse, the star of the deliciously decadent Moulin Rouge, Satine (irresistible Courtney Reed). Both romantic leads are alluring singer actors who thicken the slim “boy meets girl” plot with their deep emotions and spirited voices especially when turning Elton John’s “Your Song” into a timeless anthem for all lovers.

Joining them on their star-crossed journey is the eccentric painter Toulouse-Lautrec (sparkling André Ward), flamboyant club emcee Harold Zidler (salacious Austin Durant), jealous club patron the Duke of Monroth (commanding David Harris) and the dancing gigolo Santiago (super-macho Gabe Martínez). With a jubilant juke-box score incorporating pop and rock hits from Sting, Beyoncé, Madonna, Rihanna, Katy Perry and many more, Moulin Rouge! The Musical is a non-stop all-singing, all-dancing Mardi Gras that leaves your toes tapping and heart racing. It’s thrilling.

The cast of Moulin Rouge! The Musical. (Photo by Matthew Murphy)

The show features rich production design replete with exquisite, gracefully moving sets – including a 3-D Paris skyline complete with gliding Eiffel Tower! — (Derek McLane), retina-popping lighting (Justin Townsend), seductive choreography (Sonya Tayeh) and titillating gender-bending costumes (Catherine Zuber). But what really makes this Moulin Rouge! The Musical tick is the clever way book writer John Logan and musical supervisor and lyricist Justin Levine weave 19th Century melodrama with contemporary pop/rock classics. This reviewer counted some 78 hit tunes masterfully incorporated into the plot. The result is lush entertainment at its best, making Moulin Rouge! perhaps the greatest juke-box musical of all time.

From the ravishing “Lady Marmalade” can-can opening to the Bohemian’s “Burning Down the House” entrance to Satine’s character defining manifesto “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” to Santiago’s Apache dance to “Roxanne” to the lovers’ heartbreaking “Your Song” farewell – this story evolves both dramatically and musically and surprisingly always stays on course. The final message: to be fully human you must experience love. And I did. I loved every second of Moulin Rouge! The Musical. And so will you.

Karen Bass is looking to maximize the potential of Los Angeles as a global destination and innovation center while addressing the city’s most urgent concerns including homelessness, safety, traffic and justice for all according to the campaign

Latinos are showing up strong for Rep.
Bass, some lending their support even though they do not reside in Los Angeles. Last month saw endorsements from actors Adam Rodriguez, Colman Domingo, Rosario Dawson, Alfre Woodard, Alyssa Milano, Connie Britton, and Chelsea Handler, Aloe Blacc, Derek Fisher, Don & Bridgid Coulter Cheadle, D Smoke, Chris Silvermann, Dulé Hill, Eric Ortner, Gil Robertson IV, Issa Rae, Jane Fonda, J.J. Abrams & Katie McGrath, John Legend, Kal Penn, Ken Jeong, Kerry Washington, Kym Whitley, Lil Rel Howery, Magic & Cookie Johnson, Marla Gibbs, Norman Lear, Piper Perabo, Robin Thede, Samuel L. and LaTanya Jackson, Stan Lathan, Steve McKeever, Tracee Ellis Ross and Yvette Nicole Brown.

The Los Angeles Mayoral race is gearing up to be an even tighter race than anticipated. It is unknown if the perceived “racist” remarks made by four L.A. City Council members earlier in October may have, or not, played a part in some of the endorsements.

Last month, the Congresswoman earned the endorsement of the International Alliance of Theatrical and Stage Employees and Motion Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts (I.A.T.S.E.). Bass is the only Los Angeles Mayor candidate endorsed by the Democratic Party. Since winning the primary, she has received more than 250 endorsements from community leaders, labor unions and elected officials including President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

The post Latinos in Hollywood Show Support for Karen Bass’s L.A Mayoral Race first appeared on .

I have been yearning for a role like this my entire career and now that I finally have the opportunity to give life to such an iconic Mexican idol, I feel extremely humbled, Fernanda Kelly shared. “I feel an immense sense of responsibility to do justice to a woman who has inspired so many Latina/es like me, to live life unapologetically and with purpose.”
