Gabriel Iglesias Reveals He’s Got Covid-19; Cancels Tour

Comedian Gabriel Iglesias has announced he’s got Covid-19 despite being vaccinated.

In a video posted on social media, the funnyman also known as Fluffy delivered the somber news saying he experienced symptoms in spite of getting inoculated against the pandemic disease.

Body aches and chills led him to get tested twice, confirming he had caught the virus, Iglesias says in the video. Consequently, the artist has gone into isolation for two weeks, suspending his work schedule that included his shows at the Tobin Center in San Antonio, Texas, where he was scheduled to wrap up about a month of performances July 17.

Iglesias shared the news on his birthday, July 15, taking it in stride and even attempting to elicit a laugh from people watching the video. “Not the way I wanted to spend my birthday but at least I’m alive,” he says. “And I have cake. I can’t taste it or smell it but I have cake. Wish me luck.”

A small percentage of people fully vaccinated against Covid-19 will still develop the disease, according to the Centers for Disease Control. “However, fully vaccinated people are much less likely to be hospitalized or die than people with similar risk factors who are not vaccinated,” says the CDC on its website.

Iglesias concludes his videos with advice, saying, “Be careful out there.”

Fluffy is a top-selling comedian in the U.S. His Netflix show Mr. Iglesias, which lasted two seasons, is still available on the streamer with which he has additional deals.

Iglesias is the voice of Speedy Gonzales, Looney Tunes’ “fastest mouse in all of Mexico,” in the new film live-action/animated sports comedy film Space Jam: A New Legacy that opens this weekend.
