As a child watching Disney animated cartoons, Harvey Guillen wished to be in them. His dream has come true.
Guillen is the voice of Funny in Mickey Mouse Funhouse, the new Disney animated series that brings together once again Mickey and his friends Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Goofy and Pluto. The group meets an enchanted talking playhouse that is capable of transporting the Disney gang to different places that invite adventures.
“It’s always been a dream of mine to be a @disney character .. and I got to originate a role to be added to this iconic group of friends!” posted the Orange County, California-born actor on his Instagram page.
Now Guillen’s voice is being heard on various Disney platforms. Mickey Mouse Funhouse debuted a sneak peek on July 16 on Disney Junior followed by Disney+ on the 23, with an official premiere three days later on the junior cable channel. The next stop is Disney Channel, where the show will premiere on Sept. 3.
Also, with his new Disney role, not only is the Mexican-American actor achieving his dream, he’s reaching a wider audience — in this case, children.
Best known for his role as Guillermo de la Cruz in Hulu’s Emmy-nominated vampiric comedy/horror series What We Do in the Shadows, Guillen’s credits include recurring roles in other series like ABC’s Huge, Nickelodeon’s The Thundermans, MTV’s Eye Candy and SyFy’s The Magicians. He was also featured in the 2013 film The Internship, starring Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson. But it’s been his role in What We Do in the Shadows that has gained the actor the most notoriety to date, earning him nominations to four awards, including the Broadcast Film Critics Association’s Choice Award and the Imagen Award, both for best supporting actor.
Now he’s expanding his credits in animation. In addition to Funny, Guillen has joined FXX’s Archer, an adult-oriented comedy that follows the exploits of a dysfunctional intelligence agency. Guillen is set to voice a character named Alton who resembles the actor for a good reason. “They asked if they could use my likeness and I said “Yaaaass”,” he revealed on Instagram. Also, he voices another character in yet another Disney series, playing Angmar inThe Owl House.
Not surprisingly, Guillen has posted about the Disney animated series about half a dozen times in recent weeks. “The thing I like about Funny the most is that imagination is limitless,” he shared on Instagram. “You can do anything with your imagination and he really believes that.”
About his Disney dream come true, the 31-year-old actor concludes another post saying, “5-year-old me wouldn’t believe it if I told him. Never stop dreaming!”
Social media is a tool the actor uses avidly to share his accomplishments in Hollywood as soon as he gets the green light from the studios. Among them, starring in Mickey Mouse Funhouse stands out in various ways and with several posts. First, Guillen’s Funny befriends and interacts with Disney’s most iconic characters. Second, he is also joining a group of selected veteran talents who have voiced beloved animated characters for many years, like Bret Iwan, who’s played Mickey in various series for a decade. The ensemble cast also includes Kaitlyn Robrock as Minnie Mouse, Tony Anselmo as Donald Duck, Tress MacNeille as Daisy Duck and Bill Farmer as Goofy and Pluto.
