Writer-Producer Brig Muñoz-Liebowitz and Sony Pictures Television Sign 2-Year Pact
Burning up on industry trades is the news that comedy writer-producer Brig Muñoz-Liebowitz has signed a two year-year overall deal with Sony Pictures Television. With credits like HBO Max’s Love Life and Pop TV’s One Day At A Time, her new pact has Muñoz-Liebowitz developing comedy projects for the studio aimed at network, cable, and streaming. Sony execs to a big notice for her work as a co-executive producer on the studio’s Latino family comedy series ODAAT, Norman Lear’s reimagined classic.
According to Sony Pictures TV Glenn Adilman, EVP Comedy Development, they were truly impressed with her ODAAT work and had to have a “larger relationship with her. Her intelligence, originality, humor and passion are so clear in her writing. We are thrilled to be able to partner with her as she continues to share her voice with the world.”
Her writing career was launched on the staff of NBC’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine. She went on to work on comedy series such as TBS’ People of Earth, NBC’s Abby’s and Diary of a Future President for Disney+. She has developed projects for CBS/CBSTVS and Hulu/WBTV/Berlanti Prods. Muñoz-Liebowitz is repped by Industry Entertainment Partners’ Dianne Fraser and Sara Bottfeld and attorney Gregg Gellman of Morris Yorn.
Salma Hayek Signs 2-Year First-Look Deal with HBO Max
Via her Ventanarosa production company, Hayek (actress, producer, director, and Oscar nominee), will first bring projects to the WarnerMedia-owned streaming service for potential development via her Ventanarosa production company. Jose Tamez, President of Ventanarosa, serves as her producing partner and Siobhan Flynn is their Head of Production & Development. The Tamez-Hayek team has worked together for 20 years and together has brought forth films such as Frida, Annie Award-nominated Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet, and Beatriz at Dinner. Together, they produced the Emmy, Golden Globe, and Peabody Award-winning TV series Ugly Betty, as well as the TV movie In The Time of The Butterflies.
Sarah Aubrey, head of original content, HBO Max, said, “We are delighted to welcome the exceptionally multitalented powerhouse Salma Hayek and Ventanarosa into the HBO Max family.”
Hayek as garnered additional recognitions including winning an Emmy for Best Direction of a Family Movie for the TV film The Maldonado Miracle. Her other film credits include As Luck Would Have It, Americano, and Lonely Hearts. Hayek will next appear in Marvel’s The Eternals, Lionsgate’s The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, and Amazon’s Bliss. According to Joey Chavez, executive vice president of original drama, HBO Max, Ventanorosa has a history of bringing the most “lively and rich stories to life… and eager to hear all of the wonderful ideas that will be borne out of this partnership.”
