Luis Guzmán to Star in Netflix’s Action-Thriller ‘Havoc’

Narcos’ actor Luis Guzmán will star in the Netflix action-thriller Havoc, the first of several films for the streamer by Welsh director Gareth Evans of The Raid fame.

Havoc centers on a bruised detective who, after a drug deal gone wrong, must fight his way through the criminal underworld to rescue a politician’s estranged son. Along the way, he unravels a deep web of corruption and conspiracy that ensnares his entire city.

Guzmán (Traffic, Shameless) is joining a stellar cast that includes Tom Hardy (Venom, The Revenant), Oscar winner Forest Whitaker (Godfather of Harlem, The Last King of Scotland), Timothy Olyphant (Fargo, Agent 47) and Jessie Mei Li (Shadow and Bone). Other cast members include Yeo Yann Yann, Justin Cornwell, Quelin Sepulveda, Sunny Pang and UFC mixed martial artist Michelle Waterson.

Director Evans (Gangs of London, Apostle) wears several hats in Havoc, writing the screenplay and also producing for One More One Productions along with Ed Talfan for Severn Screen, Aram Tertzakian for XYZ Films. Actor Hardy is also a producer.

Puerto Rico-born and New York-raised Guzmán made a name playing a villain in films in the 1980s and 1990s. His credits include the features Black Rain, Carlito’s Way, Magnolia and Boogie Nights and the TV series NYPD Blue, House of Buggin’ and How to Make It in America

The 2000 film Traffic by director Steven Soderbergh won him a Screen Actors Guild Award as part of the Outstanding Performance by the Cast of a Theatrical Motion Picture. He also won an Imagen Foundation Award for Best Supporting Actor for the 2002 Punch-Drunk Love and a Vision Award from National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications for his acting in the 2012 comedy feature How to Make It in America.

Havoc director Evans popularized the Indonesian martial art of pencak silat with his early films Merantau and The Raid 1 & 2. He previously collaborated with Netflix, XYZ and Severn Screen on the 2018 horror-thriller Apostle
