Maria Conchita Alonso Stars In Daring New Comedy ¡He Matado A Mi Marido! In Theatres March 1

Los Angeles, CA  — Actress, singer Maria Conchita Alonso (The Running Man) leads an all-star international cast in a wild new comedy ¡He Matado a mi Marido! (I Killed my Husband!), opening in theatres on Friday, March 1, 2019. The platform release begins in Southern California, Miami, Phoenix and Houston, and will expand to other markets in subsequent weeks.

The film is written and directed by Francisco Lupini Basagoiti, who has been named Best Latino Filmmaker  by the Directors Guild of America (DGA) for his short film El Nido Vacío (The Empty Nest). The irreverent black comedy centers around Alonso’s character Remedios, a desperate woman who accidentally kills her cheating husband the day she’s hosting a big party to honor his recent Pritzker Prize. With guests arriving in a few hours and her family unraveling, she must survive the pain of heartbreak and a night of unbridled celebration without being found out.

“This film was born from my desire to celebrate the roles of strong, resilient women in cinema,” says Lupini. “As the tragic and chaotic events unfold around her, we feel Remedios’ intense love for her husband and the despair of her loss and we cheer her on as she finds the courage to forge a new beginning, a new identity for herself.”

¡He Matado a mi Marido! is a melting pot of Hispanic cultures. The story takes place in Miami and is filmed entirely in Spanish with performers from several countries in Latin America and Spain. While each actor brings a bit of their culture, the comedy and story are universal and any human being, regardless of language or culture, will laugh along with the characters.  The film’s tone is irreverent, taking on social issues like women’s empowerment, love, romance, sex, sexuality, class and racial discrimination with a large dose of laughter and political incorrectness.

The film’s soundtrack features Maria Conchita’s new single “Ya no más” (“No More Lies!”), co-written by Andrés Soto and Gerardo Giraldo.  The rousing anthem of women’s empowerment and liberation will be released February 1.

Rounding out the main cast are Assumpta Serna (Matador, The Borgias, The Craft) as Berta, Remedios hilarious and  faithful housekeeper, Eduardo Yañez (Destilando Amor) as Pepe, the cheeky gardener,Guy Ecker (Eva Luna) as Piero, the cheating husband, Miss Universe, Alicia Machado as Telma, the crazy aunt and actress and social media sensation Gaby Espino  as the restless mistress (Más sabe el diablo).
