Crunchyroll and NGLmitú, Partner to Celebrate Latino Love for Anime
— Crunchyroll, the leading anime streaming service, and NGLmitú, the top Latino-focused digital media and entertainment company, proudly announce a groundbreaking new partnership bridging the connection between Latino culture and love for Japanese animation —
CULVER CITY, CA — October 17, 2024 — (NOTICIAS NEWSWIRE) — Crunchyroll's partnership with NGLmitú celebrates the deep appreciation for anime within the Latino community, reaching everyone from newcomers to long-standing fans nostalgic for the anime of their childhoods.
From now through December, the ultimate destination for anime and mitú, NGLmitú’s largest consumer-facing brand, combine their efforts to show the world the special connection between Hispanic viewers and anime. Social media campaigns will amplify Latino voices and showcase culturally resonant content that highlights parallels between the Latino experience and popular anime titles such as One Piece, Naruto and Rent-a-girlfriend.
“We know that the love of anime is deeply rooted in the Hispanic community and goes back many decades to the early days of this medium, even before it reached the high level of popularity it enjoys today. This is why it is so important to us at Crunchyroll to strengthen this bond, and who better to do it than with a formidable partner such as mitú, who understands what it means to be a Latino in the U.S.,“ said Josellie Rios, Marketing Director for UCANZ region at Crunchyroll.
“Our partnership with Crunchyroll is a perfect example of the cross-cultural power of the 200% experience. As US Latinos, our audience grew up with a variety of cultural influences, so whether they grew up watching anime or have yet to be introduced to this world, our content aims to entertain and create new fandom, strengthening the cultural connection between the Latino and Japanese communities,” said Vanessa Vigil, Chief Brand Officer at NGLmitú.
As part of the campaign, Crunchyroll and NGLmitú will debut a special video sketch to be featured on "mitú Daily," mitú’s 3x weekly show, highlighting the parallels between two beloved mediums: anime and telenovelas. Both are forms of long-running story-based media that drive conversation among their followers with twists and turns into the personal lives of their protagonists. The sketch will showcase dramatic storytelling, over-the-top characters, and an emotional intensity that will remind audiences of those telenovelas many in the Latino community grew up watching.
NGLmitú's talent and anchors of the "mitú Daily" show, Jenny Arias and Alejandro Perez, bring the sketch to life as the friend duo chismeando (gossiping) about Alejandro's latest anime obsession: Rent-a-girlfriend.
Content will be available on mitú.tv, wearemitú.com, mitú YouTube channel and on Instagram.
According to Polygon, Latinos comprise a massive portion of the anime-watching population in America, with Hispanic Millennial and Gen Z comprising 22% of the monthly anime viewers. By combining telenovelas and anime, audiences will discover something new to love! Whether it is the romantic comedy Rent-A-Girlfriend or the beloved shonen anime Naruto, there are tons of long-running storylines for even the most dedicated novela watcher to keep up with.
