Rita Moreno, Joaquin Phoenix Confirmed as Oscar Presenters

Rita Moreno and Joaquin Phoenix will be part of an all-star ensemble cast to present at the 93rd Oscars.

The West Side Story actress and The Joker actor will join last year’s Oscar winners Renee Zellweger, Brad Pitt, Laura Dern and Bong Joon Ho presenting the awards at a live ceremony in Los Angeles.

“In keeping with our awards-show-as-a-movie approach, we’ve assembled a truly stellar cast of stars,” say show producers Jesse CollinsStacey Sher and Steven Soderbergh in a joint press statement. “There’s so much wattage here, sunglasses may be required.”

Other confirmed presenters are Angela BassettHalle BerryDon CheadleBryan CranstonHarrison FordRegina KingMarlee MatlinReese Witherspoon and Zendaya.

Moreno is one of five Latinos to ever win an Oscar in the acting categories, including last year’s winner Phoenix. With her stunning performance as Chita Rivera in the West Side Story, Moreno went on to win the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 1962 and to be the only female Latina to win the golden statue, so far. Phoenix won the Oscar for Best Actor for The Joker. Both Moreno and Phoenix are Puerto Rican. The other Oscar-winning Latino actors are José Ferrer (Cyrano de Bergerac), Benicio del Toro (Traffic), and two-time recipient Anthony Quinn (Lust for Life and Viva Zapata!).

Additional talent joining the award show will be announced later.

The 93rd Oscars will be held live on Sunday, April 25. Award presentations will take place at Union Station Los Angeles with performances scheduled at a different venue, the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. The program will also include additional international locations via satellite. The ceremony will be aired live on ABC at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.
