Spotlight: Meet the Cast of Netflix’s Selena: The Series

The long-anticipated wait for Netflix’s Selena: The Series is almost over. The series will debut December 4, 2020 after being announced in 2018. 

The series is split into two parts. The first part will feature six hour-long episodes that dive deeper into Selena’s childhood and her life before fame. 

Christian Serratos as Selena

Meet the cast below: 

Selena Quintanilla: Christian Serratos
Serratos, best known for her role as Rosita in AMC’s The Walking Dead, will lead the series as Selena Quintanilla. Serratos is also known for her roles in The Twilight Saga and Ned’s Declassified School Survival Guide. Serratos was born in Pasadena, California and is of Mexican descent. 

Abraham Quintanilla: Ricardo Chavira
Chavira has big shoes to fill as the father of the Quintanilla family. Abraham is also the manager of Selena y Los Dinos. Chavira is no stranger to working alongside talented Latinas as shown in his work on Desperate Housewives, Jane the Virgin and Telenovela.  



Marcella Samora Quintanilla: Seidy López
López, who was born in Yucatán, Mexico, moved to the United States at the age of four. The actress will take on the role of Marcella, Selena’s mother. When she turned 10, her parents returned to Yucatan with their three children so they would learn how to properly read, write and speak the Spanish language. López is known for her roles in Mi Vida Loca and Resurrection Blvd.



A.B. Quintanilla: Gabriel Chavarría
Chavarría will portray Selena’s older brother, bandmate and writing partner, A.B. Quintanilla. Chavarría is best known for playing the lead in the USA Network/Syfy series The Purge and for his role as Preacher on War for the Planet of the Apes.


Suzette Quintanilla: Noemi Gonzalez
Gonzalez will join the cast portraying Selena’s sister Suzette. Suzette is a champion in keeping Selena’s legacy alive. Gonzalez is best known for her role as Soli Gomez in East Los High


Chris Perez: Jesse Posey
Posey will be playing Chris Perez, the guitarist and Selena’s love interest. Posey, who is of Mexican descent, is known for his roles in Stitchers and First Love

Pete Astudillo: Julio Macías
Astudillo will portray Julio Macías, a member of Selena y Los Dinos. He co-wrote some of Quintanilla’s fan favorite songs including “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom” and “Amor Prohibido.” Macias is best known for playing Spooky, a gang member and major heartthrob, who looks out for his younger brother, on Netflix’s On My Block


Young Selena Quintanilla: Madison Taylor Baez
Baez will portray a young Selena. She has sung the National Anthem in stadiums and arenas for a variety of sports teams including the LA Dodgers and the Harlem Globetrotters. She made an appearance on Kids Say The Darndest Things

Ricky Vela: Hunter Reese Peña will portray Ricky Vela, a member of Selena y Los Dinos who wrote songs for Selena. Peña is the son of Mexican immigrants and was raised in California’s Central Valley. 

Joe Ojeda: Carlos Alfredo, Jr.
Alfredo (Mutt and Chopps) will portray Joe Ojeda, a musician who joined Selena y Los Dinos as a second keyboard player. He iis of Mexican and Ecuadorian descent.

Roger Garcia: Paul Rodriguez, Jr.
Rodriguez (The Curse of La Llorona, Vicious Circle, Street Dreams) will portray Roger Garcia, a guitarist for Selena y Los Dinos. Rodriguez is also a professional skateboarder, and has won eight medals at the X games. 

Young A.B. Quintanilla: Juan Martinez
Martinez will portray a young A.B Quintanilla. The young actor has already had roles on shows such as Parenthood, S.W.A.T., and Grey’s Anatomy

Young Suzette Quintanilla: Daniela Estrada 
Estrada will take on the role of young Suzette, the middle child who reluctantly learned to play the drums for the family band.
