The picturesque landscapes of Napa Valley came alive this past weekend, June 1st and 2nd, with the vibrant sounds and electric energy of the La Onda Music Festival. Music lovers from all over the state gathered for two days of unforgettable performances and a rich array of activities.

Opening the festival, Alex Fernandez captivated the audience with his soulful renditions of ranchera classics, demonstrating his vocal prowess and charismatic stage presence. His father, the legendary Alejandro Fernandez, followed with an electrifying performance that included his greatest hits like Como Quien Pierde Una Estrella and Me Dediqué a Perderte, leaving fans mesmerized by his powerful voice and emotional delivery.

Mon Laferte, the Chilean songstress known for her eclectic mix of rock, pop, and Latin influences, brought an intense energy to the stage with hits like Tu Falta de Querer and Amárrame. Her passionate performance was a highlight of the festival, as she seamlessly blended different musical styles and connected deeply with the audience.

The iconic Mexican rock band Cafe Tacvba delivered an energetic and dynamic set, performing fan favorites such as Eres and La Ingrata. Their innovative sound and spirited performance had the crowd dancing and singing along throughout the night. Closing the festival with a bang, Mana took the stage with their powerful rock anthems like Rayando el Sol and Labios Compartidos, ensuring the festival ended on a high note.

In addition to the stellar musical lineup, festival-goers enjoyed a variety of activities that added to the immersive experience. The silent disco provided a unique and fun way to dance the night away, as participants donned headphones and grooved to music of their choice in a vibrant, synchronized spectacle. The karaoke sessions allowed fans to showcase their singing talents, adding a personal touch to the festivities.

The Lucha Libre wrestling matches were a hit, offering thrilling entertainment that kept attendees on the edge of their seats. Colorful masks, high-flying acrobatics, and dramatic showdowns created an atmosphere of excitement and spectacle.

For those looking to relax and unwind, the festival also offered wine tastings featuring some of Napa Valley’s finest selections, allowing attendees to savor the region’s renowned wines. A variety of food stalls served delicious local cuisine, from gourmet tacos to artisanal cheeses, ensuring that everyone found something to satisfy their taste buds.

Art installations and workshops provided a creative outlet for those inspired by the festival’s vibrant atmosphere. Interactive exhibits, live painting sessions, and craft workshops allowed attendees to engage with art in meaningful and hands-on ways.

As the weekend came to a close, attendees left with memories of an extraordinary festival experience, eagerly anticipating next year’s event. For those who can’t wait, pre-sale tickets for the 2025 La Onda Music Festival are now on sale, promising another incredible lineup and even more exciting activities.

The post Alejandro Fernandez Captivates at La Onda Music Festival in NAPA first appeared on .

In the year of the coronavirus, Alejandro Fernandez released a hit-producing album he couldn’t support with concerts in large venues in the U.S. Now that the pandemic is easing up, the top-selling mariachi singer announced he will tour American cities in September and October.

Alejandro Fernandez (Photo: Live Nation Entertainment)

The Hecho en México concert, inspired by the award-winning album of the same title, will play in nearly 20 cities in the U.S. including Reno, Sacramento, Las Vegas, Albuquerque, Houston, Chicago, Boston, New York, Miami and Los Angeles.

A Latin Grammy winner, Fernandez has sold more than 35 million records worldwide and scored number-ones on Billboard’s Top Latin Albums in each of the past four decades, including his latest work Hecho en México. This album debuted at number one on Billboard’s Top Latin Album chart and marked the singer’s return to the mariachi format. It also earned him a Latin Grammy for Best Ranchera/Mariachi Album, the fourth award he has received from the Latin Recording Academy. The album also won Fernandez a Grammy nomination for Best Regional Mexican Music Album.

Hecho en México has produced four consecutives number one radio hits in the U.S. and Mexico with “Caballero,” “Te Olvidé,” “Decepciones” and his current single “Duele” featuring the also Latin Grammy winner Christian Nodal.

As live touring shut down in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, Fernández got involved in raising awareness about health and other causes. He partnered up with Univision’s Dr. Juan Rivera to share vital information about health and COVID-19 on TV and social media. He also helped raise funds for the artist community impacted financially by the coronavirus crisis. Fernández released a rendition of singer/songwriter Joan Sebastian’s classic song “Eso y Más,” using the proceeds to help out-of-work musicians. He donated 100 percent of the proceeds to MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund in the U.S and MúsicaMéxico COVID-19 in Mexico.

The duo Ha*Ash will join Alejandro Fernandez’s tour.

In October 2020, the singer lived streamed his concert América a Una Sola Voz (America Together in One Voice), which was reportedly viewed by more than 150,000 fans in 19 different countries in the Americas. With the U.S. presidential elections around the corner, in the show Fernandez reminded his fans of the importance of voting. He also joined a coalition of artists for the “Vota Por Nosotros” (Vote For Us) get-out-the-vote campaign airing on Estrella Media.

In accepting his Latin Grammy last November, the singer dedicated the award to the victims of recent hurricanes in southern Mexico and donated one million Mexican pesos, about $50,000, to the Mexican Red Cross to help with the relief efforts. Most recently, Fernandez joined Mana’s lead singer Fher Olvera as the face of the “We Are Home” campaign calling for humane immigration reform for the millions of Latino immigrants living in the U.S.

Fernandez’s U.S. concert is presented by Live Nation Entertainment. Opening for Fernandez will be the American Latin pop duo Ha*Ash integrated by the sisters Ashley Grace and Hanna Nicole Pérez. Tickets are already on sale.

Cesar Arredondo

Top-selling Mexican recording artists Alejandro Fernández and Fher Olvera of the rock band Maná are lending their voices to a new effort calling for immigration reform under the new Biden/Harris administration.

Just days after Joe Biden was sworn in as president, both artists posted videos online in support of the We Are Home/Estamos en Nuestro Hogar campaign on behalf of the national coalition of immigrant advocacy organizations. The videos in Spanish feature immigrants in a variety of settings—getting ready to go to work, holding a banner for Dreamers, demonstrating on the streets, and sharing family moments, and were shown during the kick-off of We Are Home on Facebook Live.

“Because of your sacrifice, because of you, because of your struggle, I’m joining the campaign We Are Home,” says Fernández. “We ask for citizenship, dignity, and a halt to deportations.” He adds, “In demonstrations, movements, and elections, I will fight alongside you.”

The Mexican Mariachi singer and Mexican rock musician seem to also offer veiled criticism of former President Donald Trump. “We are still here despite some saying we don’t belong, ready to close a chapter of cruelty, push forward and stop the imprisonment of our families,” says Fernández. For the past four years and under a “zero tolerance” federal policy, thousands of immigrant families were detained in centers that some critics labeled “concentration camps,” and thousands of children were separated from their parents.

The Mana frontman’s video is introduced with the music of the heartfelt romantic hit Rayando el Sol taking on a new meaning when addressing immigrants. “To all my compadres, conationals, and all the Latino immigrants in the United States, I wish you luck,” says Olvera. “Let’s keep pressing, let’s keep pushing to change the laws and achieve fair and dignified immigration reform, to stop those cruel deportations. And let us all keep pushing because the wheel (of change) just started to turn.”

The recruitment of the two top-selling artists was a huge accomplishment for We Are Home. Fernandez and Olvera are among the best known Latin American singers in the world and have a strong following in the U.S.

Fernández has won two Latin Grammys and reportedly sold more than 20 million records worldwide. Among his many hits stand out Nube Viajera, Si Tú Supieras and Me Estoy Enamorando.

Olvera’s band has earned four Grammys and seven Latin Grammys and reportedly sold more than 40 million albums the world over, making it arguably the best selling Latin rock band of all time. In addition to the song featured on the video, their major hits include the dance-friendly tune Oye Mi Amor and Me Vale and the romantic ballads El Puente de San Blas and Corazon Espinado, the latter recorded with the legendary rocker Carlos Santana as part of the Grammy Award-winning album Supernatural.

Both singers posted their videos on three popular social media platforms, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, where they have a combined following of more than 38 million people. The posts, which displayed the hashtags #WeAreHome and #NuestroHogar, have raked in tens of thousands of views in just a few days.

“Our movement has felt the presence of these two Latin icons for decades,” says Nathaly Arriola, director of We Are Home. “From protests to concerts, their songs have become anthems that have lifted us up in good and bad times. We are extremely thankful for Fher and Alejandro’s support during this historic moment in our country.” Adds Arriola, “A Together, we will work for a humane and just immigration system that will treat our community with the dignity it deserves.”

We Are Home coalition organization members include Community Change/Community Change Action, National Domestic Workers Alliance, Care in Action, Service Employees International Union, United Farm Workers, and United We Dream.

This is not the first time Fernández and Olvera come together in public campaigns in the U.S. Last year they worked on getting out the Latino vote for the presidential election.

A poll by the UCLA Latino Policy and Politics Initiative reports that a record number of 16.7 million Latinos voted in the 2020 suffrage, an increase of almost a third compared to four years earlier.

The post Iconic Music Stars Back Immigration Reform first appeared on .
