People Choice Award-Winner Coll was described as “A formidable actress as she continues to deliver breakthrough performances on television, film and theater” by Michael Phillips of the Chicago Tribune and has received a myriad of accolades for her performances during her illustrious career spanning more than three decades and her role as Grandma Rivera is no different.

“It was such a different and welcomed experience to play a modern grandmother part of an upscale family. My character is on TikTok and holds a glass of wine in her hand instead of serving food in the kitchen. Definitively a more realistic grandmother, not the usual stereotype,” said Coll.

Alexa PenaVega (Picture Perfect Mysteries, Spy Kids franchise) and Carlos PenaVega (Picture Perfect Mysteries, Big Time Rush) star in Love in the Limelight, a new, original movie on Hallmark Channel’s annual “Fall into Love” programming event. Inspired by the real-life love story of Willie Aames (Picture Perfect Mysteries: Exit Stage Death, Eight is Enough) and his wife Winnie Hung, with a script written by Aames, Hung and Rich Tabach. 

The story revolves around Summer (Alexa PenaVega) who as a teenager, was a devoted fan of the popular boy band the Mendez Boyz, especially Nick (Carlos PenaVega), their lead singer. After receiving a sweet fan letter from Summer, Nick decides to respond with a phone call, sparking the start of a friendship that’s lasted to this day. When Nick’s manager books a gig for him at a small venue in Summer’s hometown of Salt Lake City where she now works in human resources at a local university, the two finally meet face-to-face. It’s clear their friendship has set the stage for romance. Summer breaks things and Summer’s Grandmother (Ivonne Coll) – a hip grandma with a TikTok following – encourages her to follow her heart. 

Adding a rich, Latin sound to the movie’s soundtrack are six original Spanglish songs written by Carlos PenaVega: If You Let Me, Someday Somewhere, BASIC, Vamos Pasar La Bien, Fall Again and Por Ti. Pena Vega is currently on national tour as a member of the popular group Big Time Rush. 

Love in the Limelight is from Crown Media Productions, LLC. James Wilberger is the executive producer and David Wulf is producer. Ron Oliver directed from a script by Willie Aames, Winnie Hung and Rich Tabach, inspired by real events.

The Casagrandes are moving into the neighborhood on Monday, October 14, at 1:30 pm (ET/PT) over at Nick. the familia includes 11-year-old Ronnie Anne who moves to the city with her mom and older brother and a nerdy Tio. After the premiere, the familia moves to it’s regular timeslot on Saturdays at 11:30 a.m. (ET/PT) beginning Saturday, Oct. 19, on Nickelodeon.

The Casagrandes is a spinoff of Nick’s animated hit The Loud House, and it stars Izabella Alvarez (Westworld) as 11-year-old Ronnie Annie, Carlos PenaVega (Big Time Rush) as her brother Bobby and Sumalee Montano (Nashville) as her mom Maria, alongside: Carlos Alazraqui (The Fairly OddParents) as Carlos, “Tio;” Roxana Ortega (The League) as Frida, “Tia;” Alexa PenaVega (Spy Kids) as Carlota; Jared Kozak (Born this Way) as CJ; Alex Cazares (The Boss Baby: Back in Business) as Carl; Ruben Garfias (East Los High) as Hector, “Abuelo;”and Sonia Manzano (Sesame Street) as Rosa, “Abuela.” Additionally, Eugenio Derbez (Dora and the Lost City of Gold) gives voice to Dr. Santiago, a physician living and working in Peru, who is Ronnie Anne and Bobby’s father.

Did you really expect a small family?

At the heart of the story is the family’s culture, and life in a multigenerational Mexican-American family. After moving in with their grandparents in Great Lakes City, Ronnie Anne adjusts to her new life living under one roof and over the family-run mercado (local market), which is a gathering place for everyone in the neighborhood.

Latin Heat entertainment caught up with Izabel at the recent L’Attitude Conference in San Diego where she and fellow actor, Carlos Alazraqui and Supervising Director Miguel Puga and Lalo Alcaraz, Cultural Consulting participated on a panel.

Ronnie Anne’s new apartment building holds new friends and neighbors, including: Ken Jeong (Dr. Ken) as Stanley Chang; Melissa Joan Hart (Sabrina the Teenage Witch) as Becca Chang; Leah Mei Gold (Legion) as 12-year-old Sid Chang,Ronnie Anne’s new friend; and Lexi Sextonas Adelaide Chang, Sid’s 6-year-old little sister.

In the first episode, Going Overboard, Ronnie Anne finds out her Tio Carlos was a famous skateboarder and she begs him to teach her some new moves. Then, in Walk Don’t Run, Ronnie Anne and Sid start a dog-walking business to save up for a new skateboard in a plan that quickly gets out of hand.

The Casagrandes premiere will encore at 3:30 p.m., 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. (ET/PT) on Nickelodeon.      

The Casagrandes is produced by Nickelodeon in Burbank, Calif. The series is executive produced by Michael Rubiner (The Loud House), with Karen Malach (The Loud House) serving as producer, Alan Foreman as supervising producer and Miguel Puga as supervising director. Award-winning cartoonist Lalo Alcaraz (Coco) serves as consulting producer and cultural consultant.

Nickelodeon announced that Eugenio Derbez (Overboard, Instructions Not Included) will be the voice of Dr. Santiago, the Casagrandes patriarch. The main crux of the story is the Santiago family: Dr. Santiago, a physician living and working in Peru, and the father of 11-year-old Ronnie Anne, voiced by Izabella Alvarez (Westworld) and Bobby, where Carlos PenaVega (Big Time Rush) lends his voice.

Also part of the main cast are Ken Jeong, who voices Mr. Stanley Chang, a friend, and patient train conductor, and Melissa Joan Hart (Sabrina the Teenage Witch), voicing Mrs. Becca Chang, a quirky, smart and funny zoologist and wife to Stanley.

The Casagrandes features two multi-generational families, the Santiago’s and the Chang’s — two families with active and incredible children. In an exclusive interview with EW, Derbez spoke of his enthusiasm:

“It’s outrageous and funny and has heart. This is what a Latino kid show should look like, big fun and mainstream with some Latin spice. I’m grateful to Nickelodeon for asking me to be a part of it.”

The Casagrandes brings forth many funny and touching stories of the daily life that every kind of family can relate to.

“We’re thrilled to have Eugenio, Melissa, and Ken on board to make these characters as relatable and funny as can be,” said Ramsey Naito, Nickelodeon’s EVP of Animation Production and Development.

Rounding out the cast in this wonderful and diversely cast animation include Leah Lei Gold (Legion) as 12-year-old Sid Chang, Ronnie Anne’s new friend, and Lexi Sexton as Adelaide Chang, Sid’s 6-year-old little sister.

Nickelodeon’s The Casagrandes is set to premiere in October 2019.
