Premieres Thursday, September 2 at 10 PM on FX

The highly anticipated third season of FX’s Emmy-nominated comedy, What We Do in the Shadows, will premiere with two episodes on September 2nd at 10 p.m. on FX and the next day on FX on Hulu. Paul Simms is the writer and showrunner.

Billed as a “mockumentary comedy horror” television series, the show’s dramatic throughline follows four vampire roommates in Staten Island and a “familiar,” a human named Guillermo, played by Harvey Guillén, who is the overworked servant of one of the vampires, Nandor (played by Kayvan Novak). At end of Season One, the immortals discover Guillermo is, in fact, related to the noted slayer, Van Helsing and might have quite a future.

Harvey Guillen as Guillermo de la Cruz in Hulu’s What We Do in the Shadows.

We got so much feedback from people who said ‘I feel like I was watching my mom and myself have a converstion,’ down to the buñuelos in the background.”

When asked what twisted road the series will travel this season, Guillén just shrugs, “Paul is the boss. I don’t know what’s going to happen with Guillermo. I don’t know until the last minute. Actually, I do know what happens, but I don’t know how much I can say. I don’t want to spoil this.”

Simms interjects, “Well, you can say a little about where we are going. A hint is the first episode. The title is “The Prisoner,” and that teases, sort of, what’s going on.

Guillen laughs, “Yeah, that’s good.”

Guillén is the son of Mexican immigrants. He adopted the stage name “Harvey” when his teachers could not pronounce his first name. On a number of television series, Guillén has appeared in recurring roles such as Alistair Delgado on Huge (2010), Cousin Blobbin on The Thundermans (2013–2018), George Reyes in Eye Candy (2015 and Benedict Pickwick on The Magicians (2017–2018). Guillén also provides the voice of Funny the Magic House in Mickey Mouse Funhouse.

As this series has developed over two seasons, Guillén has become aware that Guillermo has become very popular in the Latino community. “I think he should be,” he says. “All the response I’ve gotten from people who said even the smallest scene, like the scene where he’s talking to his mom, affects them. We got so much feedback from people who said, ‘I feel like I was watching my mom and myself have a conversation,’ down to the buñuelos in the background. Little details like that really make a difference.

Guillen concluded, “We can say it till we’re blue in the face, but representation matters and I think we’ve done a really good job of representing. So I look forward to continuing. I know we have already been picked up for a fourth season.”

Harvey Guillen builds a gingerbread Funny house (Credit: Courtesy via Instagram)

As a child watching Disney animated cartoons, Harvey Guillen wished to be in them. His dream has come true.

Guillen is the voice of Funny in Mickey Mouse Funhouse, the new Disney animated series that brings together once again Mickey and his friends Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Goofy and Pluto. The group meets an enchanted talking playhouse that is capable of transporting the Disney gang to different places that invite adventures.

“It’s always been a dream of mine to be a @disney character .. and I got to originate a role to be added to this iconic group of friends!” posted the Orange County, California-born actor on his Instagram page.

Now Guillen’s voice is being heard on various Disney platforms. Mickey Mouse Funhouse debuted a sneak peek on July 16 on Disney Junior followed by Disney+ on the 23, with an official premiere three days later on the junior cable channel. The next stop is Disney Channel, where the show will premiere on Sept. 3.

Also, with his new Disney role, not only is the Mexican-American actor achieving his dream, he’s reaching a wider audience — in this case, children.

Best known for his role as Guillermo de la Cruz in Hulu’s Emmy-nominated vampiric comedy/horror series What We Do in the Shadows, Guillen’s credits include recurring roles in other series like ABC’s Huge, Nickelodeon’s The Thundermans, MTV’s Eye Candy and SyFy’s The Magicians. He was also featured in the 2013 film The Internship, starring Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson. But it’s been his role in What We Do in the Shadows that has gained the actor the most notoriety to date, earning him nominations to four awards, including the Broadcast Film Critics Association’s Choice Award and the Imagen Award, both for best supporting actor.

Now he’s expanding his credits in animation. In addition to Funny, Guillen has joined FXX’s Archer, an adult-oriented comedy that follows the exploits of a dysfunctional intelligence agency. Guillen is set to voice a character named Alton who resembles the actor for a good reason. “They asked if they could use my likeness and I said “Yaaaass”,” he revealed on Instagram. Also, he voices another character in yet another Disney series, playing Angmar inThe Owl House.

Not surprisingly, Guillen has posted about the Disney animated series about half a dozen times in recent weeks. “The thing I like about Funny the most is that imagination is limitless,” he shared on Instagram. “You can do anything with your imagination and he really believes that.”

About his Disney dream come true, the 31-year-old actor concludes another post saying, “5-year-old me wouldn’t believe it if I told him. Never stop dreaming!”

Social media is a tool the actor uses avidly to share his accomplishments in Hollywood as soon as he gets the green light from the studios. Among them, starring in Mickey Mouse Funhouse stands out in various ways and with several posts. First, Guillen’s Funny befriends and interacts with Disney’s most iconic characters. Second, he is also joining a group of selected veteran talents who have voiced beloved animated characters for many years, like Bret Iwan, who’s played Mickey in various series for a decade. The ensemble cast also includes Kaitlyn Robrock as Minnie Mouse, Tony Anselmo as Donald Duck, Tress MacNeille as Daisy Duck and Bill Farmer as Goofy and Pluto.

The new season of Hulu’s vampiric horror-comedy What We Do in the Shadows seems to be a game of…throne?

Harvey Guillen as Guillermo de la Cruz (Credit: Hulu)

Based on the 2014 film of the same name, What We Do in the Shadows follows four old-century vampires as they hilariously interact with the modern world in current-day New York with the help of a familiar or human servant. The series stars Kayvan Novak, Matt Berry, Natasia Demetriou and Mark Proksch as vampires Nandor, Laszlo, Nadja and Colin, respectively, and actor Harvey Guillen in the role of the familiar Guillermo de la Cruz.

Season three, which starts Sept. 2, sees the four vampires getting, three immigrants and one American, excited about becoming the new leaders of the Vampiric Council only to discover that only one of them can sit on the council’s coveted, ornate high chair. Needless to say, a struggle ensues.

The show is written by Clement and Taika Waititi, with the latter also exec producing.

Through its first two seasons, What We Do in the Shadows has received 10 Emmy Award nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series and a Critics’ Choice nomination for Best Comedy Series.

After the shocking season two finale, the housemates are in a panic about what to do with Guillermo upon discovering that he is a vampire killer. This season, the vampires are elevated to a new level of power and will encounter the vampire from which all vampires have descended, a tempting Siren, gargoyles, werewolf kickball, Atlantic City casinos, wellness cults, ex-girlfriends, gyms and supernatural curiosities galore. Also, Colin Robinson is turning 100. And Nandor, faced with his own eternal-life crisis, tries to inject his life with more meaning. Will he find love or is he destined to be an immortal bachelor with 37 ex-wives?
