The Hispanic Public Relations Association (HPRA) recently announced that film director and producer Jessy Terrero will be the recipient of the 2023 ¡BRAVO! Awards President’s Award. Considered one of the most influential music video directors in urban culture, Terrero has created iconic videos for artists such as Jennifer Lopez, Nicky Jam, Enrique Iglesias, Daddy Yankee, Maluma, and Bad Bunny, amassing over 21 billion views collectively and putting Latino artists at the forefront of a global cultural movement. Terrero will be honored during the HPRA ¡BRAVO! Awards, which are set to take place at The Drake Hotel in Chicago, Illinois on October 12, 2023.

The President’s Award is hand-selected by HPRA’s President to recognize an individual whose contributions to Hispanic culture and representation, whether it be through industry leadership, civic service, or the arts, has left an indelible mark on the community. Terrero’s ability to bring to life Latino stories through music, film, and TV, and give them representation in the industry, has created a unique visual and narrative language that speaks to a wide audience, breaking down cultural barriers and promoting cross-cultural understanding.

“For the past 20 years, Jessy’s career and powerful storytelling have been emblematic of the resilience, grit, and determination that defines Latinos in this country, while also contributing to a positive sense of identity and pride for the community,” said HPRA President Sonia V. Diaz. “His commitment to shining a light on our culture and to giving opportunities to young talent in the arts is at the heart of what HPRA strives to achieve and we are proud to honor him with this recognition.”

Terrero made his debut as a film and TV director with Soul Plane, a film featuring Kevin Hart and Sofia Vergara, and later directed a series of features including Freelancers with Robert De Niro and Forest Whitaker, and Gun with Val Kilmer. In 2018, he created and directed the Netflix Original Nicky Jam: El Ganador, a biopic that focuses on the artist’s success and fame as well as his struggles with addiction. Most recently, Terrero was the executive producer on several documentaries in partnership with Amazon Music, such as Hip-Hop Por Siempre and La Cuna Del Dembow.

The 2023 HPRA National ¡BRAVO! Awards celebrate excellence in multicultural storytelling in public relations and marketing while advancing positive narratives about Latinos in the United States. This year’s ¡BRAVO! Awards theme, “The Future es Nuestro,” focuses on the country’s ongoing cultural shift and contributions of the Hispanic/Latino community. Each year, the 2023 National ¡BRAVO! Awards also recognize communications leaders who are selected for their pivotal work in shaping the industry and establishing progress for Hispanic and multicultural consumer segments in public relations, media, and communications.

The Honorees are nominated and chosen collectively by HPRA executive leadership and its board of directors. This year’s honorees include Hispanic Heritage Foundation President and CEO Jose Antonio Tijerino, as Pioneer of the Year Award; host of MSNBC’s American Voices and Latina to Latina podcast, and author Alicia Menendez, as Journalist of the Year; and Omnicom Communications Consultancy Network Chief Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer Soon Mee Kim, as DEI Person of the Year.

Finalists for this year’s ¡BRAVO! Awards will be announced on August 15. Tickets to attend the event are available now.

After a decade of staying away from romantic movies, Jennifer Lopez is coming back to the big screen with a love story in time for San Valentine’s. She stars in Marry Me, a romantic musical comedy-drama set for release Feb. 11.

Lopez plays famous Latin pop singer Kate Valdez, who surprisingly proposes to a stranger in one of her concerts. Originally, Kate was expected to pop the question to her music partner Sebastian, a popular singer portrayed by Colombian reggaeton artist Maluma, in a highly anticipated media event announced to the four winds and planned to stream live to millions of people as part of her Marry Me Concert Tour.

But after learning of her boyfriend’s cheating on the news just minutes before their carefully planned public engagement, a shocked and brokenhearted Kate proposes to a concertgoer holding a sign that said: “Marry me.” The stranger, a recently widowed single dad named Charlie, is played by Owen Wilson.

The film is directed by Kat Coiro, known for helming TV comedy series like Fox’s The Mick, FX’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and ABC’s Single Parents and comedy movies like Daddy Issues and A Case of You.

The screenplay is by John Rogers, Tami Sagher and Harper Dill, whose respective credits include Flightplan, Catwoman and Inside Amy Schumer. The script is based on a graphic novel by newcomer writer Bobby Crosby. Marry Me is executive produced by Lopez for her company Nuyorican Productions. The film’s 10-member producers team includes some that have worked with Lopez in previous movies, such as Hustlers’ Benny Medina and Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Second Act’s Alex Brown.

The rest of the main cast is rounded up by Sarah Silverman (Wreck-It Ralph), Utkarsh Ambudkar (Brittany Runs a Marathon), Jimmy Fallon (The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon), John Bradley (Game of Thrones), Chloe Coleman (My Spy) and Brady Noon (The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers).

The last romcom starring Lopez was the 2010The Back-up Plan, about a woman who conceives twins through artificial insemination but then meets the man of her dreams on the very same day. The film won Lopez a nomination for the Teen Choice Awards.

An actress, singer and dancer, Lopez is considered one of the most influential Latino artists in the U.S. as well as one of the most powerful celebrities on the planet, making popular lists of influential magazines like Forbes and Time. She has reportedly sold about 70 million records and boasts a cumulative film gross of more than $3 billion. Her most notable films include Selena, Anaconda, The Cell, Shall We Dance, Monster-in-Law and Hustlers. Last year she received an Emmy nomination for her live performance along with Shakira in the Super Bowl LIV Halftime Show. And this year Lopez performed a musical mashup at the inauguration of President Joe Biden, incorporating some words in Spanish.

Along with Marry Me, the musical, JLo will also release a soundtrack that includes two duets with Maluma, “Pa’ Ti” and “Lonely.” The pair performed the songs at the 2020 American Music Awards last November. And in early December, Lopez dropped the video for her ballad “On my Way,” another track from the film. The soundtrack album is slated to debut in February, too.

Marry Me, the movie, is set to be released simultaneously in theaters by Universal Pictures and on the streamer Peacock.

Puerto Rican Llandel Veguilla Malavé AKA Yandel was born on January 14, 197. He is a reggaeton musical artist and producer, also half of the very popular reggaeton duo Wisin & Yandel who emerged in the music scene in 1995.

They quickly rose to fame with the recording of the 2000 album Los Reyes del Nuevo Milenio. They later made the jump to a major label in 2003 with Mi Vida… My Life. De Nuevos a Viejos (2001), Mi Vida… My Life (2003) and De Otra Manera (2004), all of which were certified gold. The duo went on to receive the Tu Música Award for Best Rap/Reggaeton Duo in 2002.

In 2013, after their Líderes tour, Winsin and Yandel each went their separate ways. Yandel’s solo studio album after the split, De Líder a Leyenda, was released in November 2013, which was certified Gold (Latin) by the RIAA in 2014.

But after five years of being on their own, they reunited in February 2018, and four months later they did their first U.S. concert at Madison Square Garden.

In May 2018, they did a concert at the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum in Puerto Rico selling out the show quickly and resulting in adding more shows, totaling 8 back-to-back shows at this venue.

Later that year they released Reggaetón En Lo Oscuro the lead single from their upcoming tenth studio album Los Campeones del Pueblo / The Big Leagues, which features collaborations with many artists including Ozuna, Maluma, and Bad Bunny.

Back on track, Yandel continues to make beautiful reggaeton music again with Winsin.

From new music videos launching, to old songs keeping listeners going. Fans and stars keep the hype up on social media to express everything together.

New music video released on August 6th, by Cardi B. and Megan Thee Stallion broke the internet this week! Their collaboration on new song “WAP” and music video featured Kylie Jenner strutting down a hallway in a leopard ensemble. Many fans rushed to Twitter to complain about Jenner’s cameo in the video, questioning the reasoning behind it. The buzz created more views for the video, which is now at 88 million views.

Jennifer Lopez and Maluma have been recording a music video during quarantine. According to ET Online, JLo and Maluma were “spotted heading into a studio in Brooklyn on Sunday.” On August 9th, JLO announced excitement about a new project via her Instagram.
Latino rock n’ roll star and actor Trini Lopez passed away at 83 from Covid19 on August 11th, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
