Set for a Dec. 17 release this year, the film is executive produced by Argentina-born Victoria Alonso, one of the most powerful women in Hollywood who has also worked pretty much with every other superhero film of the Marvel Universe wheres she serves a executie VP of production at Marvel Studios. She has produced such hits as Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Thor and Captain America: The First Avenger among many.

In Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter Parker, for the first time in the cinematic history of Spider-Man, is unmasked and no longer able to separate his normal life from the high-stakes of being a Super Hero. When he asks for help from Doctor Strange the stakes become even more dangerous, forcing him to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man. Joining Alonso in exec producing are Louis D’Esposito, JoAnn Perritano, Rachel O’Connor, Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach.

The next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is quickly approaching with Black Widow, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and now, Eternals.

The first trailer for Eternals introduces the new team of immortal superheroes who must reunite to fight The Deviants.

Eternals stars Salma Hayek as Ajak; Richard Madden as Ikaris; Gemma Chan as Sersi; Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo; Lauren Ridloff as Makkari; Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos; Lia McHugh as Sprite; Don Lee as Gilgamesh; Barry Keoghan as Druig; Angelina Jolie as Thena and Kit Harrington as Dane Whitman.

Hayek will be the first Latina playing a superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and it’s her voice the audience hears in the trailer above.

Eternals is directed by Academy Award–winner Chloé Zhao and will be in theaters this November.

After two decades in the making, Marvel Studios’ Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings will arrive at movie theatres Sept. 3, and we have the trailer to give you a taste of this highly anticipated superhero movie.

Argentinian-born filmmaker Victoria Alonso is one of three executive producers of this flick starring Simu Liu and Awkafina. Shang-Chi, one of few Asian superheroes in films, is a master of the wushu martial art and an expert in weaponry like karate sticks and jian swords.

Alonso has extensive experience as an exec producer in the superhero genre: Spider-Man: Far from Home, Captain Marvel, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Guardians of the Galaxy and The Avengers, to name a few. She has also been a producer in Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor and Iron Man.

Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton (Short Term 12).

Hulu announced the company’s lineup of upcoming original programming including the fourth season of the multi-award-winning series The Handmaid’s Tale, the third and final season of comedy series Shrill and new adult animation series Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K.

The company also announced a series order for new original limited series Iron Mike from 20^th Television and the team behind I, Tonya, as well as an early third season renewal for Animaniacs from Steven Spielberg (Ready Player One, Schindler’s List).

“With returning seasons of award-winning comedies and dramas, Hulu’s 2021 slate of Original series truly has something for everyone,” said Craig Erwich, president of Hulu Originals and ABC Entertainment. “We’re incredibly excited to welcome back the stories and characters fans have connected with in The Handmaid’s Tale, Shrill, Animaniacs and Love, Victor, while taking viewers deeper into the character of Mike Tyson in Iron Mike and bringing animated but deeply human characters to life in Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K.”

With 39.4 million subscriptions as of Jan. 2, 2021, Hulu has gained remarkable momentum over the past year with the streamer recently earning a record 10 Golden Globe nominations across five titles, five SAG Award nominations, five WGA Award nominations and seven NAACP Image Award nominations.

Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K.

Hulu’s new adult animated comedy series Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. premieres all 10 episodes Friday, May 21. In “Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K.,” the megalomaniacal supervillain M.O.D.O.K. (Patton Oswalt) has long pursued his dream of one day conquering the world. But after years of setbacks and failures fighting the Earth’s mightiest heroes, M.O.D.O.K. has run his evil organization A.I.M. into the ground. Ousted as A.I.M.’s leader, while also dealing with his crumbling marriage and family life, the Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing is set to confront his greatest challenge yet!

The series stars Oswalt, Melissa Fumero (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Aimee Garcia (Lucifer, Dexter), Wendi McLendon-Covey, Ben Schwartz, Beck Bennett, Jon Daly and Sam Richardson. Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. is created and written by executive producers Jordan Blum and Oswalt. Brett Crawley, Robert Maitia, Grant Gish, Joe Quesada, Karim Zreik and Jeph Loeb also serve as executive producers.

Love, Victor

The popular teen dramedy Love, Victor produced by Disney returns with all 10 episodes on Friday, June 11. Season two picks up with a newly out-of-the-closet Victor (Michael Cimino) entering his junior year at Creekwood High. However, being out brings new challenges as Victor faces a family struggling with his revelation, a heartbroken ex-girlfriend in Mia (Rachel Naomi Hilson), and the difficulties of being an openly gay star athlete — all while navigating the excitement of his new relationship with Benji (George Sear).

The series stars Cimino (Annabelle Comes Home), Ana Ortiz (Ugly Betty), James Martinez (One Day at a Time), Isabella Ferreira (Orange is the New Black), Mateo Fernandez, Rachel Naomi Hilson, Bebe Wood, Sear, Anthony Turpel and Mason Gooding. The film’s original writers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger serve as executive producers alongside Brian Tanen, Jason Ensler, Isaac Klausner, Marty Bowen, Adam Fishbach, Wyck Godfrey, Pouya Shahbazian and Adam Londy.

Iron Mike

Hulu has picked up 8-episode limited series Iron Mike. From the team behind I, Tonya, the series explores the wild, tragic and controversial life and career behind one of the most polarizing figures in sports culture – heavyweight champion Mike Tyson.

From 20th Television and created by I, Tonya screenwriter Steven Rogers, showrunner Karin Gist will executive produce with Claire Brown of The Gist Of It, along with the I, Tonya team of Rogers, director Craig Gillespie, Clubhouse Pictures’ Bryan Unkeless and Scott Morgan, LuckyChap’s Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley and Brett Hedblom and Entertainment 360’s Darin Friedman.

Animaniacs

Following a successful first season and practically blowing up the internet, Animaniacs has been renewed for a third, zany season on Hulu consisting of 10 episodes. The series garnered the most social mentions of any Hulu Original to date over its season one opening weekend proving that fans can’t get enough of watching Yakko, Wakko and Dot as they wreak havoc and mayhem in the lives of everyone they meet. The second season of Animaniacs will debut later this year.

After returning to their beloved home, the Warner Bros. Water Tower, the Animaniacs waste no time in causing chaos and comic confusion as they run loose through the studio and beyond, turning the world into their personal playground. Joining Yakko, Wakko and Dot are fan-favorite characters Pinky and the Brain who will also return to continue their quest for world domination.Hulu, Amblin Television and Warner Bros. The Handmaid’s Tale

The fourth season of The Handmaid’s Tale premieres with three episodes on Wednesday, April 28. In the 10-episode upcoming season, June (Elisabeth Moss) strikes back against Gilead as a fierce rebel leader, but the risks she takes bring unexpected and dangerous new challenges. Her quest for justice and revenge threatens to consume her and destroy her most cherished relationships.

The series stars Moss, Joseph Fiennes, Yvonne Strahovski, Samira Wiley, Alexis Bledel, Ann Dowd, Max Minghella, Madeline Brewer, O-T Fagbenle, Amanda Brugel, Bradley Whitford and Sam Jaeger. The Handmaid’s Tale season four will be executive produced by Bruce Miller, Warren Littlefield, Moss, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears, Eric Tuchman, John Weber, Frank Siracusa, Sheila Hockin, Kira Snyder and Yahlin Chang. The series is produced by MGM Television and internationally distributed by MGM.

Shrill

The third and final season of Shrill premieres all eight episodes on Friday, May 7. The new season finds Annie (Aidy Bryant) energized by her breakup with dud boyfriend Ryan (Luka Jones) and her newfound momentum at work. Annie feels like everything is finally falling into place for her, but does she actually know how to get what she wants?

Shrill stars Bryant, Lolly Adefope, Ian Owens and John Cameron Mitchell. The series is executive produced by Ali Rushfield, who also serves as showrunner, Bryant, Lindy West, Rob Klein, Elizabeth Banks, Max Handelman, Lorne Michaels and Andrew Singer. The series is produced by Warner Bros. Television, Broadway Video and Brownstone Productions. Warner Bros. Television serves as the international distributor.

Get ready to be sucked into the mind-bending film that is Bliss. Starring Salma Hayek (Like a Boss, The Hummingbird Project) and Owen Wilson (Wonder, Wedding Crashers), Bliss takes viewers through a distorted love-story between the two.

Hayek plays Isabel, a woman who seemingly lives in the streets of a shattered world, convinced that the polluted, broken world around them is only a computer simulation. Wilson plays Greg, a recently divorced man who just got fired and whose world is falling apart. After the two connect, they both end up believing they are living in a simulated reality, created to make society appreciate the beautiful world they truly live in.

The distorted story only becomes more complicated as Greg struggles to determine which of the two worlds is reality and which is the simulation. He is swayed by Isabel and his daughter played by Nesta Cooper (The Edge of Seventeen, #Realityhigh) in his quest to choose what is real.

The sci-fi drama was written and directed by Mike Cahill. Cahill is no stranger to the science fiction realm having written and directed both I Origins and Another Earth. The latter was co-written with Brit Marling.

The Bliss also includes Madeline Zima (Californication, Heroes) and Joshua Leonard (The Blair Witch Project, If I Stay). 

We last saw Hayek in The Roads Not Taken and Like a Boss in 2020. This year will bring the Mexican actress to our screens a lot more. Hayek will star alongside Angelina Jolie (Maleficent) and Richard Madden (Game of Thrones, 1917) in Marvel Studios’ Eternals where she plays a superhero worshipped by the Incas. The blockbuster is scheduled to release this coming Nov. 5 as part of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

Hayek will also return to the big screen in the title role of The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, the sequel to The Hitman’s Bodyguard, where she will reprise her role as Sonia Kincaid. The actress will star alongside Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool, Detective Pikachu) and Samuel L. Jackson (The Hateful Eight) who plays her husband.

Hayek will share her Bliss leading man, Wilson with another powerhouse Latina in 2021. Wilson and Jennifer Lopez (Hustlers) star in the romantic-comedy Marry Me. This film is tentatively scheduled for a May 2021 release.

Bliss is set to be released on Feb. 5 by Amazon Studios on Prime Video.

Actor Oscar Isaac of Star Wars, X-Men and Ex-Machina fame is negotiating to lead the Marvel series Moon Knight for Disney+.

Moon Knight is a fictional hero of the Marvel Universe that appeared for the first time back in 1975 but which has never made it as the Avengers in television nor the big screen.

That’s about to change. With Issac as Moon Knight, the superhero who displays multiple personalities will be joining the so-called “Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.” Moon Knight is a mercenary-turned-crime-fighter whose real name is Marc Spector. As he faced death in an adventure in the Land of the Pharaohs, Spector is brought back by the Egyptian moon god Khonshu.

Isaac’s negotiations were first reported by the trade publication The Hollywood Reporter.  

If the deal is signed, Moon Knight could become one of the few superheroes played by a Latino actor. Isaac is Guatemalan-American. In fact, it has been reported that Marc Spector, a Jewish-American character, would be presented instead as a Latino. As Mr. Knight, Spector dresses in an all-white business suit, gloves, and mask and collaborates with New York police to fight crime in the Big Apple. The superhero is often compared to Batman, the Dark Knight as he is also a millionaire and uses gadgets in his fight for justice.

Isaac is an award-winning actor with more than 40 acting credits under his belt, including the dramatic film Inside Llewyn Davis (2013), for which he received a Golden Globe Award nomination and and the HBO miniseries Show Me a Hero (2015) that which earned him the Golden Globe Award for best actor in a miniseries or television film.

Selena Gomez to Produce and Potentially Star in STXfilms’ Dollhouse

Singer-songwriter, actress Selena Gomez has joined STXfilms’ psychological thriller Dollhouse as a producer. Gomez may pull a double-play and also star in the film. 

The project, which is still searching for a director, was written by Michael Paisley and is set in the upper echelon of New York City’s fashion scene and is reminiscent of Black Swan. 

Gomez will produce through her July Moon Productions along with 21 Laps’ Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen. Patricia Braga of STX will oversee the film with 21 Laps’ Emily Morris.

“Selena’s involvement is an exciting direction for this project. She is supremely talented as both a star and a producer,” said STXfilms Motion Picture Group chairman Adam Fogelson. “Teaming Selena with Shawn and Dan’s expertise in the horror-thriller genre will elevate Dollhouse and we couldn’t be more thrilled by the way this is being developed.”

Gomez has gotten busier on the production side of filmmaking in the past couple of years. She recently exec produced Tri-Star’s romantic comedy Broken Hearts Gallery, Living Undocumented and Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why. Gomez exec produces and can be seen on her HBO Max cooking series Selena+Chef.  She is set to reprise her lead female role in Sony’s Hotel Transylvania 4, which she’ll also executive produce. Additionally, Gomez will produce and star opposite Steve Martin (Cheaper by the Dozen, The Pink Panther) and Martin Short (Saturday Night Live, Big Mouth) in Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building. Gomez’s acting credits include The Dead Don’t Die, The Big Short and the Netflix original Fundamentals of Caring.

Ariana Guerra Set Appears in Hulu Original Helstrom

Actress Ariana Guerra (Five Feet Apart, Candy Jar) is featured in the horror-filled first season of the Hulu Original Helstrom that started Oct. 16. The series is based on the Marvel comics and follows the son and daughter of a mysterious and powerful serial killer as they track down the worst of humanity.

The 26-year-old Mexican-American actress portrays Gabriella Rosetti, a woman who uses both logic and faith that wants to help the showrunners uncover cases of demonic possession. Guerra works alongside Tom Austen (Grantchester, The Royals) and Sydney Lemmon (Fear The Walking Dead), who play Daimon Helstrom and Ana Helstrom, respectively.

Guerra is best known for her role as Kerry Phillips in the Netflix series Raising Dion and as Dana in the Netflix film Candy Jar.

Hulu is partnering with Marvel to bring forward Marvel’s dark tale of the Helstrom family. The series will consist of 10 episodes which are set to be released all at once.

Station 19‘s Jaina Lee Ortiz Will Return in Explosive Crossover Event

Television powerhouse Shondaland is no stranger to tackling crises. The long anticipated wait for the return of ABC’s Station 19 is almost over and fans will be welcomed with a two-hour crossover event with Grey’s Anatomy on Nov. 12. 

Station 19 stars Jaina Lee Ortiz and follows the lives and heroics of the Station 19 fire crew. During season four, the crew will show audiences what it means to be on the frontlines during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Station 19 constantly intersects with Grey’s Anatomy, but the crossover events between the two are all the more special to fans.

Comic-Con, the biggest entertainment convention in the world, went virtual this year, allowing everyone globally to attend the vast variety of world-famous programs through the Comic-Con International channel on YouTube. Among the array of topics such as comic books, movies, video games, and lessons in creating original content, was a diversity of ethnic orientated panels, including Asian, African American, Native American, and Latino.

Over the 5-day virtual convention from July 22 – 26, 2020, Latino talent was represented in a number of panels, with talent In front and behind the camera. With such an abundance of scheduled programs, here is a highlighted list of programs about and panels featuring Latino talent.

July 23, 2020 – Thursday

Marvel Storyboards: An interview with Marvel Executive VP, creative director Joe Quesada, about his documentary series Marvel’s Storyboards. Before VP, Quesada started at Marvel as an artist, eventually rising to the editor, then editor-in-chief.

His Dark Materials Virtual Panel and Q&A Session: The panel of the HBO adaption of the global bestselling trilogy book series His Dark Materials, by Philip Pullman, features executive producers and six cast members (Lin-Manuel Miranda) discussing the influence the series has had on them artistically and the upcoming second season this fall.

Mexico’s Magnificent Stop-Motion Seven: With Mexican cinematic talent, especially animation, continuing to get increased recognition by the foreign market, this panel the contemporary masters of Mexican stop motion animation. Panel spoke in Spanish, with English subtitles.

Mexican Lucha Libre: History, Tradition, Legacy: In Mexican pop-culture history, a beloved image is the Lucha Libre wrestlers, most notably the hero El Santo. The panelist explores just how impactful this type of entrainment is in Mexico, including its influence in cinema. Panel spoke in Spanish, with English subtitles.

What We Do in the Shadows: Recently nominated for a 2020 Emmy for Best Comedy Series, the main cast (Harvey Guillén, Matt Berry, Kayvan Novak, Natasia Demetrious, and Mark Proksch), writers/producers (Paul Simms and Stefani Robinson) and special guest Haley Joel Osment of What We Do in the Shadows go in-depth of different elements of the show including personal behind the scene stories. The series has been greenlit for a much-anticipated 3^rd season.

Aztec Depictions in Pop Culture: 500 Years After the Fall: In current American pop-culture, the Aztec empire is one of the most referenced classic pre-colonialist empires, alongside the Greek, Egyptian, and Roman empires. Panelist (David Bowles, Javier Rayón, Mario Fuente, Flora Alexandra Reese-Arredondo, Paul Guinan, and Anina Bennett) use the Aztec culture and history as inspirations to their stories, while also evaluating how our prior knowledge of the Aztec empire is continually growing.

Will she join the Marvel Universe? She would be an exciting new addition, that’s for sure!

The Eternals, set to start filming later this year, is being directed by Chloe Zhao (The Rider, Songs My Brothers Taught Me), and if the Hayek rumor mill gets their way, she will be starring with Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, and Kumail Nanjani.

In addition, Amazon Studios and Endgame Entertainment recently announced that Hayek and Own Wilson will be starring in the mind-bending romance, Bliss. Directing is Mike Cahill (I Origins, Another Earth) that is now shooting in Los Angeles and Croatia.

Wilson portrays Greg, a recent divorcee whose life is falling apart when he meets a captivating woman, Isabel, portrayed by Hayek, who happens to live on the streets and is convinced that the polluted world around them is not real. Greg eventually gets caught up in Isabel’s wild theory.

Producing is James D. Stern, Endgame Entertainment along with Lucas Smith and Marsha Swinton are executive producing.

And, if these two movie projects weren’t enough, Hayek is also co-starring alongside Tiffany Haddish, Rose Byrne and Billy Porter with Miguel Arteta directing the comedy Limited Partners for Paramount which is due out in January fo 2020.

Also coming in 2020, Hayek costars with Samuel L. Jackson, Ryan Reynolds and Frank Grillo in The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard. The action-comedy-thriller has just wrapped. Sounds like an exciting movie where Hayek as Sonia Kincaid gets to join the guys in the raucous and hilarious mayhem to kick a little A!

The actress also has bragging rights with films like Arteta’s Beatriz at Dinner and Ken Marino’s How to Be a Latin Lover, co-starring with Eugenio Derbez and of course who can forget her as Frida Khalo in Frida in 2002.

Gabriel Luna cast in Marvel’s Ghost Rider for Hulu

It was reported by Variety that Gabriel Luna will star in the Marvel Live action series reinterpretation of the character Ghost Rider for Hulu.  

Marvel’s Ghost Rider, also known as Robbie Reyes, is a quintessential antihero, who lives on the Texas /Mexico border and is consumed by hellfire and supernaturally bound to a demon. Reyes lives on the Texas/Mexico border and when he unleashes the Rider, Robbie brings vengeance for the innocents he encounters but struggles to control the power he wields. Marvel’s Ghost Rider is executive produced by Ingrid Escajeda, who will serve as showrunner, Paul Zbyszewski and Marvel’s Jeph Loeb

Luna previously portrayed the character in the ABC –Marvel series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The Ghost Rider will be a stand-alone character that will have no connection to the previous comic, television, animated and film incarnations.  Nicolas Cage portrayed Ghost Rider Johnny Blaze opposite Eva Mendes in a 2007 big screen film version. The Hulu series is set for a 2020 debut.

Luna’s television credits include True Detective, Wicked City and Matador for Robert Rodriquez. He will be seen this summer co-starring with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton in Terminator: Dark Fate.

Priscilla Quintana Lands Lead Role in the CW’s Pandora

Priscilla Quintana (Traffik) has landed the lead role in the CW’s Pandora sci-fi series to premiere this summer. The series is created by Mark A. Altman and Steve Kriozere (ABC’s Castle).

Set in the year 2199, a young woman (Quintana) who has lost everything finds a new life at Earth’s Space Training Academy where she learns to defend the galaxy from intergalactic threats.

Also cast as series regular cast are Oliver Dench (Ride), Raechelle Banno (Home and Away), John Harlan Kim(The Librarians), Ben Radcliffe (The Evermoor Chronicles), Banita Sandhu (October), Martin Bobb-Semple (Free Rein) and Noah Huntley (The Royals, 28 Days Later).

A former model, soon to be a major talent in Hollywood, Quintana is represented by Steven Jang of SDB Partners and managed by Ben Levine of LINK Entertainment.

Alma Martinez Guest Stars on AMC’s The Terror: Infamy

Alma Martinez ( Zoot Suit, Barbarosa) guest stars in four episodes of the new second season of AMC’s The Terror: Infamy, a 10 episode series set during World War II in the 1940s and follows the lives of the American Nakayama and Ojeda/Trujillo families.

Martinez is a prolific actress and educator whose career spans over 40 years in film, theatre, and television both in the United States and Internationally. Martinez co-incidentally began her career in the theatrical production of the 1940s set theatrical and the film version of the hit musical drama Zoot Suit by Luis Valdez. Martinez will be seen later this year in the feature film Clemency opposite Alfre Woodward.  

The Terror: Infamy stars Derek Mio, George Takei and Cristina Rodlo (Miss Bala) the anthology series of events take place in a stateside Japanese Internment camp where a series of bizarre deaths haunt a Japanese-American community and a young man’s journey to unlock and combat malevolent forces. Takei, who spent part of his childhood years in an internment camp, serves as a special consultant for the production which is shooting on location on Vancouver, British Colombia with a production team from Japan, Mexico, England, Australia, Scotland, New Zealand, Canada and Pico Rivera, California.  The second season of The Terror: Infamy anthology series will premiere on AMC on August 2^nd, 2019.
