Ramona is the longest, continuously-running drama in the country

Los Angeles, CA – Each spring, hundreds of actors, dancers, musicians, horses, cowboys, and representatives of the rich heritage of Southern California’s Native Tribes, come together to create the magical experience that is Ramona, a classic love story based on actual events that took place in early California during the 1850’s. Much more than just a love story however, Ramona is a representation of the tragic history of Southern California’s native people. It is a love story with a moral, a message that is as relevant and important today as it was when Ramona was first written over a century ago.

(Photo: The Ramona Pageant Association)

After a two-year absence, due to the global pandemic, The Ramona Pageant Association announced the return of Ramona the longest, continuously-running drama in the country, which will make its 99th appearance at The Ramona Bowl on April 23, 24, 30 and May 1, 2022. Tickets for the show are now available at www.ramonabowl.com

“As the Bowl returns to full operation after more than a year of closure due to COVID and numerous construction projects, some of which are still underway, we look forward to a return to our traditions and many new opportunities, too,” said Dee Cozart, President, Ramona Bowl Amphitheatre Board of Directors.

Ramona began as a novel, published in 1884 by Helen Hunt Jackson, one of America’s most popular women writers of her day. Though never one to get involved in social causes, in the year 1879 Jackson had suddenly emerged as one of America’s leading advocates of Indian rights. She called for changes in the government’s Indian policies and documented their past crimes in her 1881 book, “A Century of Dishonor”.

In her book, Jackson described in vivid detail the broken treaties, brutal murders and evictions the Indians had endured. Forced onto reservations, disease and death soon took their toll. America’s Indians were heading towards extinction.

Jackson had hoped her book would lift the American people to the same sort of outrage she felt over the treatment of the Indians. However, when Jackson realized that most Americans were not sympathetic toward Indians, she decided to write a novel that would move people’s hearts by disguising her reform message as a love story. She called her novel Ramona.

(Photo: The Ramona Pageant Association)

And so, the story of Ramona was born. And the idea that more hearts could be won with pure emotion than with detailed information proved correct. And the novel’s success not only transformed the way people viewed the issue of Indian rights in America, it created a romantic vision of California that still lives on today. The book has never been out of print. And many movies and television versions have been created over the years, but it’s the Ramona that one experiences at The Ramona Bowl every spring since 1923, against the beautiful backdrop of the San Jacinto rolling hills and turquoise skies, that one truly feels the presence and spirit of Ramona.

20 Year Look Back At JLO’s 1st Golden Globe Nomination for Selena

Although Jennifer Lopez did not take home the Best Supporting Actress Golden Globe for her performance as Ramona in Hustlers, she made heads turn on the Red Carpet. When it comes to red carpet fashion, no one slays a carpet quite like J.Lo. The musician and actress showed up in a stunning multi-colored ballgown that featured a billowing white hem and larger-than-life bow that was perfectly tied up in vibrant shades of gold and emerald green.

Making her statement-making gown even more dazzling, the Hustlers star kept her glam classic and effortlessly elegant. She donned her signature J.Lo glow but instead of sticking to her usual long wavy hair, she opted for a chic updo with braids wrapped around her bun.

Watch the video interview HERE courtesy of E! Live From the Red Carpet

The 50-year-old icon also had the best arm candy around as she walked the red carpet with her fiancé, Alex Rodriguez. All in all, Jennifer looked like a million bucks, which is fitting considering she’s up for a big award tonight.

Speaking to E! News’ Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet, Lopez recalled her role and wanted people to know she put in the work.

“I was on a pole,” she quipped. “I was like, ‘Please get a close-up of my face. I don’t care if I look like a bat hanging upside-down, Lorene [Scafaria] make sure they know it’s me, so that they didn’t think it’s a stunt double.’ It was hard.”

Rodriguez chimed in, “The one great benefit is having a pole in our bedroom.”

This is Jennifer’s second Golden Globes nomination. She was also nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy) in 1998 for playing Selena Quintanilla in the film Selena. J.Lo was thrilled about this year’s nomination and shared her excitement on Instagram when the nominees were announced.

“Could not be prouder to be recognized by the HFPA,” she wrote. “Ramona was a complicated character and it was an honor and challenge to bring her to life. Hustlers was a labor of love, sweat and perseverance written, directed, produced, edited and starring a group of bad-ass women. I am proud and honored to represent them and this film!!!!”

The last year has been one for the books for Jennifer. At the start of 2019 she got engaged to the love of her life, was nominated for a Golden Globe and also celebrated her 50th birthday with an epic celebration that was attended by numerous A-List celebrities.

“2019… it’s the last day of a decade… wow… when I think back to 2010… and think of all the things that happened between now and then I smile softly and contently on the inside… because even though some of the tougher moments popped into my head first, I realize I survived them all and they led me into the best time of my life so far,” she wrote alongside a sweet video recap of 2019. “I honestly wouldn’t change a thing…I feel stronger and more at peace with who I am now than I ever have… I hope that you all can look back in the same way and enjoy every moment of your journey. Savor it, enjoy it!!!! It’s the 20’s. Get ready to roar!!! And laugh and dance and live live live!”

The post No Golden Globe For JLO But Buzz On The Red Carpet first appeared on .
