The creator of Mexico’s hugely popular TV drama series, La Casa de Flores, Netflix’s The House of Flowers, where Manolo Caro is also the executive producer and director, will add new projects for the streaming giant. Caro’s Netflix new development deal also includes a three-episode miniseries, Someone Has To Die (Alguien Tiene Que Morir) set in the 1950s Spain. Someone Has To Die is written by Monika Revilla, Fernando Perez, and Caro. Producing are Rafael Ley, Maria Jose Cordova, Carlos Taibo and Caro.

In the story, a young man is summoned to return to Spain from Mexico so that he can meet his fiancee. The thing is, and to everyone’s surprise, not just in his family but also in the entire village, he returns accompanied by a mysterious ballet dancer named Lazaro. To avoid problems with the regime, it is clear that someone must die.

Netflix’s VP of Original Content for Latin America and Spain, Francisco Ramos, said in a statement, that “Manolo Caro’s great talent is telling unique, personal and at the same time relevant stories, which makes him one of the most interesting and fun voices of his generation.”

Caro’s The House of Flowers, which premiered in August of 2018, “has seduced audiences from Mexico to the Netherlands. We are very proud that Netflix is now Manolo Caro’s house,” added Ramos. In October 2018, Netflix renewed the drama series for a second and third season to be released in 2019 and 2020.

Caro responded by saying, “To be able to create universal content and do so with the greatest creative freedom are two big reasons to take this trip with Netflix. Over the next few years, I’ve committed to telling stories in different languages and from different borders but always speaking with honesty about topics important to me.”

Manolo Caro is repped by Asensi Management and Hirsch Wallerstein Hayum Matlof and Fishman, Esq. Aside from The House of Flowers, Caro is also known for Tales of An Immortal Couple (2016), Elvira I will Give You My Life But I’m Using It (2014), and La fabulosa y patetica historia de un montaje I Love Romeo y Julieta (2014).
