TheTRENDTalk, is created and executive produced by Bel Hernandez.  Hernandez  has since been at the forefront in creating a platform to amplify the Latina voice beginning in 2009 with the first talk show she produced, Let’s Talk!, giving Latinas a voice at the talk show table.  

Since the premiere of TheTRENDTalk in 2017, the show has been focused on highlighting the accomplishments of the Latino community, from civic leaders, entrepreneurs, inventors, patrons of the arts and Hollywood celebrities.  TheTRENDTalk celebrates the world as seen through a Latina lens.

“I am so thrilled that Lizza Monet Morales will be joining us as a co-host and executive producer this season.  Her work speaks for itself.  From being invited by the Obamas to the White House; to working with IMG in the fashion world; hosting and producing live and streaming shows; to advocating for farmworkers and fallen soldier Vanessa Guillen, Lizza brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to TheTRENDTalk,” Hernandez enthused.  “Already her ideas are extending our 6th season to more exciting content and we can’t wait for our audience to see it.”

As an actor, Lizza was most recently seen as a lead in the award-winning social impact film Intolerance No More written and directed by Emmy award winner Sergio Guerrero. Some of her other credits include, David Mamet’s Phil Spector biopic for HBO starring Al Pacino and Helen Mirren and a series regular on VH1’s highest rated show New York Goes To Hollywood.

Lizza who is known as the “TV host seeing the world through love filled eyes” has been on-air talent for Access Hollywood, Telemundo, EXTRA, Univision, Celebrity Justice, The Insider and The TV-Guide Channel amongst others and has reported for US Weekly and People Magazine.  And now we can add TheTRENDTalk to her long line of credits.

Elly has relocated to the small desert town of Borrego Springs, which is located only an hour and a half from Palms Springs, there to study an invasive plant species growing in the desert. When she witnesses a plane crash, she goes to investigate and ends up being kidnapped and thrust into the reality of drug smuggling. Deputy Sheriff Jose Gomez (Gonzalez) springs into action to try and help Elly.

In an interview with TheTRENDTalk Show Gonzalez explained his character in the film. “He’s been a person who has been able to kind of hide himself from maybe the dangers of the world,” Gonzalez explained. “He seems to be someone who shrugs off duty, until this time around he can’t help but take responsibility and take care of his daughter.”

His daughter in the film, Alex played by Olivia Trujillo (Vivo, For All Mankind) is introduced to U.S. audiences, while Leynar Gomez (Narcos: Mexico) gives a stand-out performance as Tomas, the inexperienced “mule” who kidnaps Elly after his ultralight plane crashes in the desert. Jorge A. Jimenez (Queen of the South, Narcos: Mexico) is a drug smuggler who is now hunting down both the kidnapper and the kidnapped.

When asked about working with Gomez and Jimenez, Gonzalez said he had already been a”fan” of both their work. He commented that he felt the roles they played in Borrego gave them an opportunity to be able to work on more three-dimensional characters. “[With these characters] We are seeing the underneath, the choices that were made, the fear, family…we are seeing the stories behind [the characters]…,” Gonzalez said.

This film about the drug underworld of the Mexico-U.S. border brings a new facet to the drug cartel stories. Gonzalez turns in a solid performance as Sheriff Deputy Gomez working opposite Hale, with whom he had previously worked on the TV show Pretty Little Liars.

Although the film is set in the Coachella Valley in California, because of the pandemic, it was shot in Almería and Andalucía, Spain where they shot for a month right after the strict pandemic guidelines were lifted in Spain.

Borrego was released by Paramount Movies on January 14 and is available in theaters, digital and on-demand for all audiences.

Author/Playwright Josefina Lopez talks about her projects and Film Director Ben DeJesus talks about his groundbreaking work with John Leguizamo, Latin History for Morons

TheTRENDTalk show airs on Sunday mornings at 7:30 a.m. on MeTV network. You can always catch the shows on YouTube and here on Latin Heat.

Co-hosts are EMMY award-winning journalist Naibe Reynoso and Bel Hernandez, CEO, and President of Latin Heat Media. Both ladies have been embedded in the Hollywood entertainment industry for decades and have always been at the forefront of Latinos working in front and behind the camera. On TheTRENDTalk, the ladies reach out to Latinos making a difference not just in entertainment but in all industries and through their efforts, are making a positive impact in their communities. Both Reynoso and Hernandez have author books– “Be Bold, Be Brave!, an inspiring illustrated book for girls and young Latinas by Reynoso, and “8 Ways To Say I Love My Life,” a book compiled with chapters written by eight women who relate their stories of courage and strength, Hernandez wrote one of the chapters.

Lopez is a Chicana playwright, best known as the author of the play and co-author of the screenplay, Real Women Have Curves. Her other notable plays include Simply Maria, or the American Dream, Confessions of Women from East L.A, Boyle Heights, and Hungry Woman in Paris, which is based on her first novel.

How DeJesus got to where he is today is a fascinating story, but somewhere along the way after his theater education at Rutgers University, he met John Leguizamo, which led to directing the PBS documentary Tales from a Ghetto Klown to Latino History for Morons. In between, DeJesus has directed episodic TV for many series on the Disney Channel.
