The third season of TNT’s post-apocalyptic series Snowpiercer will premiere Jan. 24 with Colombian actor Roberto Urbina back as engineer Javier “Javi” De La Torre.

De La Torre is one of a few engineers on a train called Snowpiercer, which has been constantly on the move for seven years since a worldwide environmental catastrophe brought another ice era to planet Earth. The long locomotive serves as the home of what little remains of humanity, about 3000 people who endure class warfare, social injustice and the desperation for survival.  

The series is based on the 2013 film of the same title directed by Bong Joon-Ho—whose film Parasite won three Oscars last year—and the 1982 French graphic novel Le Transperceneige, which was adapted by Hollywood to the big screen. The TNT series debuted in 2020 and became a top cable drama. 

Urbina’s Snowpiercer cast colleagues are Oscar-winner Jennifer Connelly, Grammy and Tony Award-winner Daveed Diggs, Sean Bean, Rowan Blanchard, Emmy-nominee Alison Wright, Mickey Sumner, Iddo Goldberg, Katie McGuinness, Tony Award-winner and Grammy-nominee Lena Hall, Annalise Basso, Sam Otto, Sheila Vand, Steven Ogg and Mike O’Malley. They will be joined in the third season by Emmy-nominee Archie Panjabi and Chelsea Harris. 

The return of Urbina’s character ensures the third season will keep its only Spanish-surnamed actor as part of the main cast. It is also a surprise as Javier’s death was suggested at the end of season two when the engineer joined a fatal revolt to take over Snowpiercer. The series has had a few other Latinos as guest actors during its first two seasons, including Renée Victor as Mama Grandé who survives a revolution in which her grandson Santiago, played by Michel Issa Rubio, was killed.

Bogota-born Urbina is a rising Latino star whose breakout roles include the 2003 Bolivian drama feature Dependencia Sexual (Sexual Dependency), Bolivia’s entry to the 76th Academy Awards, and the crime thriller Hacia la Oscuridad (Towards Darkness), opposite Golden Globe-winner America Ferrera. With a career that includes both Hollywood and Latin America, the actor has appeared in Steven Soderbergh’s Che: Part One, the Netflix series Narcos and the Colombian series Correo de Inocentes. 

“Snowpiercer has been an incredibly successful series for us that continues to capture the imagination of viewers, grow audience and maintain strong ratings,” say Sam Linsky and Adrienne O’Riain, co-heads of scripted original programming for TNT. 

The show is executive produced by Graeme Manson, Aubrey Nealon, Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Matthew O’Connor, Christoph Schrewe, Ben Rosenblatt and Scott Derrickson, and the original film’s producers, including Joon-Ho, Miky Lee, Jinnie Choi, Park Chan-Wook, Lee Tae-Hun and Dooho Choi. It is produced by Tomorrow Studios.

The series’ popularity has led the cable channel to keep the Snowpiercer engine going. “All of our seasons embark on an emotional, unexpected ride and the well-plotted storylines will continue to evolve and remain relevant to audiences,” add Linsky and O’Riain. “We’re excited to keep the train running into season four.”   

It is unknown if Urbina’s engineer remains on the train in the fourth season.

This will be the second consecutive time Contreras hosts the show, joined by Rivera who previously emceed the awards night four years ago. For Sánchez, it will be her fifth time hosting the Latin Grammy. The actress of the Fox series Fantasy Island served as the hostess of the 16th, 17th, 18th and 20th editions of the coveted music prize.

While born in McAllen, Texas, Contreras was actually raised in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas. She moved to Mexico City while still a teenager to participate in the competition TV show Pop Stars. She was a member of the group T’detila. After studying acting, she worked in telenovelas like Barrera de Amor, Duelo de Pasiones, Teresa and Corazón Indomable. She returned to the U.S. in 2018 to join the cast of The CW’s soap opera reboot of Dynasty, which she only did for one season before going back to Mexico. There, she will be featured in the upcoming TV thriller series Toda la Sangre.

Rivera rose to fame in his native Mexico when he won TV Azteca’s singing competition La Academia in 2004. Since then, the singer has released four studio albums and starred also in several theatre productions. One of his biggest hits is the 2020 song “Perdiendo la Cabeza” performed along with American singer Becky G and Puerto Rican singer Pedro Capó. The song reached number one in Mexico and also charted in other Latin American countries. 

Sánchez is best known for her roles on the CBS police drama Without a Trace, which earned her an Alma Award for Outstanding Actress in a Drama Television Series. She was also featured on the Lifetime comedy-drama Devious Maids and currently stars in the Fox series reboot of Fantasy Island. Her film credits include Rush Hour 2, Boat Trip, The Game Plan and Act of Valor. The actress/model, who also has delved into music, has also been a Latin Grammy nominee herself. In 2003, she recorder her debut album, Borinqueña, with the single entitled “Amor Amor” getting a nod for Best Music Video.

After the Latin Grammy ceremony, winners and other guests are expected to attend the Official Latin Grammy After-Party, which once again will take place at the Hakkasan Nightclub. 

Not only nominees, stars and celebrities will attend this year’s Latin Grammys. A limited number of tickets are now available for purchase at www.axs.com. 

In Sin City, Latin Grammy attendees are expected to observe Covid-19 protocols, providing proof of full vaccination or a negative Covid-19 test along with a government-issued photo ID. Only lab-administered PCR and Antigen COVID-19 tests will be accepted and must be administered within 72 hours of the events, according to organizers. Furthermore, guests of all Latin Recording Academy events will also be required to wear masks, regardless of vaccination status and could undergo symptom screening upon entry. 

The award ceremony will also air on the cable channel TNT in Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Mexico, Panama and Venezuela. Additional international broadcasting partners will be announced at a later date.

Adding another coveted honor to her resume for her performance in The Queen’s Gambit, actress Anya Taylor-Joy walked away with a Screen Actors Guild Award yesterday during the airing of the virtual awards show on the TBS and TNT networks.

She was up against some Hollywood heavy-hitters like Cate Blanchett, Kerry Washington, Michaela Coel and Nicole Kidman who were also nominated in her category.

Taylor-Joy, who looked stunning in a black lace Vera Wang dress, was awarded the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Miniseries or Television Movie SAG Award for playing Beth Harmon, the orphaned chess prodigy in the hit Netflix series. In The Queen’s Gambit, Harmon was not only a fierce chess player, she was also somewhat of a fashionista, a similar trait that seems to be shared by Taylor-Joy’s as here fans pointed out on social media. 

“I’m so unbelievably honored to be in this room. Even though it’s not a room, it’s still mental. It was such a privilege to get to work with the playmakers I got to work with, “Taylor-Joy said during her acceptance speech. “They were so beautiful and supportive and kind. A show isn’t made by one person, it’s made by everybody, and I’m just so, so grateful that I get to do this.”

For the 24-year-old, Miami-born Taylor-Joy, a British-American actress who is of Argentine descent, the SAG Award is the fourth honor she receives for her performance in The Queen’s Gambit. She recently received a Golden Globes for best actress in a limited series or TV movie. Internationally she also received an AACTA International Award and the Broadcast Film Critics Association Award for the role.

Taylor-Joy first came to prominence in the 2015 fantasy series Atlantis. Accolades started to roll in that same year with The Witch, a period horror film that won the actress nine film festival prizes. Other recent movies that have brought her recognition are Glass, Marrowbone, and Thoroughbreds.

The only other Latinos awarded at the SAG Award were part of the 160 stunt performer ensemble for Wonder Woman 1984, including Carlos Castillo, Dacio Diaz Caballero, Eduardo Gago, Mauro Calo, Pablo Verdejo, Ramon Alvarez and Richard Nunez. Also, Joe Perez stands out among 20 performers in The Mandalorian’s winning stunt group, 

This year’s SAG winners include Chadwick Boseman, Viola Davis, Daniel Kaluuya and Yuh-Jung Youn for performances in motion pictures, and Mark Ruffalo, Jason Bateman, Gillian Anderson, Jason Sudeikis and Catherine O’Hara for performances in television. The SAG awards for outstanding performances by a motion picture cast went this year to film The Trial of the Chicago 7, while the award for television drama and comedy ensemble performances went to the series The Crown and Schitt’s Creek.

The SAG Awards season will kick off with a new take on the traditional nominations announcement, honoring the outstanding film and television performances of 2020, on Thursday, February 4, 2021 at 8 a.m. (PT).

This year due to Covid the SAG Awards Eligibility Period included two additional months, January 1, 2020 – February 28, 2021

storytelling while adapting to new safety protocols and procedures. We embrace that spirit as we re-imagine the SAG Awards with a one-hour
special that highlights and expands on our signature I am an Actor opening and honors the outstanding performances of the past year.

The 27th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards production team includes Executive Producer Kathy Connell, with Avalon Harbor
Entertainment and Hazy Mills Productions. Connell, Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner will also again serve as executive producers.
